Anyone have a service manual for a '01 500 ??

No i doesn't say anything that i seen...in your manual what does the
trouble shooting page say for a non working temp light??
 
Daman, my sled is exactly the same sled as your wifes new sled. The motor was bored out to a 600 about a year ago. Then after that is when all the suspension , clutch, and other upgrades were made. The motor now is basically equal to an older twin 600. After like 99 or 00 the 600's were triples, mine is a 2001. The blocks of the 500 and 600 twins are equal, but with different bores, and obviously internal parts. So having the block bored was easy, but it's still a twin. I never had the lights blink even before all the work was done to it. I don't think it has the computer. I didn't own the sled when the motor work was done. It was a family members sled. I used to drive it occasionally before I owned it though. But I might have a problem too.. not sure now..

Yea thats what i'm trying to figure out if a 500 should light up on start up...

It will do one or the other.....light up for a few sec. or blink 3 times.

I need to find more people with '00 '01 500's :)

Now(Hate to bother you)could you post a pic of the
procedure for checking that temp light circuit??? the lighting coil i think...
