Can anyone fill me in on the differences between the 93 Exciter II SX and the standard Exciter II ?

I heard they had adjustable struts but don't know what else.

Wider
more compression
different pistons, cylinders, and heads.
about 93 HP
Flatslide carbs
4 track drivers
Wider handle bars
Low windsheild
Head pipe (manifold) is shorter than a regular Exciter.

Maybe a few other things

YAMAHA MADE THE EXCITER SX AT THAT TIME TO RUN AGAINST THE FORMULA PLUS X SKIDOO. THE EXCITER SX WAS HOT. MARS EXPLAINED THEM PRETTY ACURATE.! THESE WILL BE COLLECTORS SOON !! 3:16 (tony)

That sled was a gas to ride, way faster than a standard EX, completely diff motor and exhaust, of course I couldn't leave mine alone, I took mine, dropped a 94 600 in it, PSI low rpm twins, Cat secondary, what a gas, ran 103 on radar, a friend of mine still has it, uses it as a back up, I think he rode it this year, I also put a 94 Vmax skid in it, it was faster.

Not sure why but my sled has NO beans, never did. It barely does 85 MPH. I tried to figure it out, but never could.

They should of been the same suspension?
From my post below !

The Original Pro-Action was used in the SRV, Vmax540 and the Exciter II and last used in the 94-96 Vmax 5-600 sleds. The SRV/Vmax540 listed the travel as 5.9" and the 94-96 Vmax 5-600 sleds as 8.5" ? I purchased the front and rear arms plus the rear shock off a 1994 Vmax 500 and the only difference is the newer arms are tubular verse channel for my old Vmax. The rear of rear shock is the same center to center lenght and all shock mounts are in the same position ! Everything matches up the same although I did not get the limiter straps from the newer 500 so, what is the deal ? I'm bummed where is the extra 2.5 inches ?

I have highlighted the things I want to know a little moore about !!

Wife have a SX
but I can not see that the handle bars is wider....
Can somebody tell moore about the exhaust manifold

well there's alot of different pieces on that kid, the location of the front arm and the shocks, what made what I did faster was the shape of the rails, what I really did at the time was use the rails and front arms off a 92 Vmax4 and the rear half from the SX, those SRV EX2 rails have that sharp curve in the front which slows them down. Later ones I did I through a 94 skid in it.

Or you can go one step more and make an Exciter XT. 41" ski stance, GYT kit struts for 7.5" travel, U.S.I. skies and a 133.5" track !

Thanks Lasse ! These pictures show what the Struts from the 94-96 Vmax 5-600cc sleds will do for a Exciter, Phazer, Vmax540. The lighter weight of these sleds will allow the T.S.S. to work even better than just the extra 2.5" of travel alone !

Wow, Ideas Galore!

VMax540: You have just given me all kinds of ideas for the Phazer rebuild I plan this summer. You said to use the struts from a VMax? Any particular year you favor?

The only thing I never liked about the SX exciter was the graphics scheme. why bright orange and pink?!

I have been looking for one with low miles; I know they are out there; just have to find one. Plan would be to do the graphics package from the '93 Exciter (gray/gold) and a few other mods.

The Struts from the 1994-96 Vmax 5-600cc sleds and probably the 1992-97 Vmax4 struts are the same length altough I'll bet the springs are too stiff for the weight of the Phazer ? All the T.S.S. sleds I've had, have the same diameter struts. You need the longer shock covers, springs and aluminum knuckles along with the struts. You can find them fairly reasonable on E-bay, any parts forum or salvage yards ! I bought a set of brand new(rare) Genuine Yamaha GYT Kit struts off of E-bay that were an upgrade for the Vmax 5-600 sleds with adjustable dampening, rebound and slightly longer travel for $75.00 ! Yamaha part # SMA-8CA91-10-00

Here is another set I saw a while back !

I Need to get some stuff clearifyed......

Can some body clearify that the "SX" had :

* Wider handle bars ?
* Head pipe (manifold) is shorter than a regular Exciter ?

- - - - -

Does someone have a picture/measurements of the different handle bar ?
Does someone have a picture/measurements of the different Y-pipe ?

Qty Part Number Description Price Total
88R-23811-00-00 COLUMN,STEERING $80.66 $80.66
82M-14610-00-00 EXHAUST PIPE ASY L $146.01 $146.01
8AY-14610-00-00 Y PIPE $121.92 $121.92
8AY-23811-00-00 COLUMN,STEERING $90.71 $90.71

Top two parts are from a 93 Exciter, Bottom two are from the SX.
I also checked the 93 Phazer Bars and they were the same number as the regular Exciter. Something is different, I just can't tell you what exactly.

Now here's something a little strange, the 94 Vmax 600 has the same y-pipe as the regular Exciter. Hmmmmmm.......
