viper help ( Drivers/chain Case needs to come off)

I think im going to Take my track off to be drilled..

but the real Question is How to get that Chaincase cover off. Already got the caliper off, and all the bolts holding it on. Its just that darn bottem C-clip im having problams with. the bugger dont want to come out. how to get this out? and after this c-clip is there anythign else i should be expecting after that c-clip?? Will it just slide off , along with the driver shaft?. if it dosn't slide off, how do i get the drivers off?

Sorry, im new at this. Learning sucks but o well.

I might aswell ask now since im creating a new thread. How to bleed a Hydrolic Break? thanks for anyone who can answer my questions!!

when you say chaincase, i believe your refering to the whole case (both halves) so i'm guessing you've come along to the c-clip and you will need a different kind of plier that will have "nob" ends on it and opens outwards instead of inwards when you grip it. (see attached pic) also, to bleed a breek line you want the resevoir above the caliper of course, and then there is what looks like a grease zerk on the caliper that when you loosen will allow the fluid to flow out. can't remember if you need to just loosen it and it will come out the tip or if you need to take it completely out. either way, you'll figure it out cuz if loosening it doesn't make it come out, taking the stopper off will. then just let the fluid drain out into a pan. and when you go back to refill. fill the resevoir with the stopper off and let it run down the line and let some come back out the stopper and when theres no more air comming out then you can stop it up. making sure not to let air get in the line (no brakes or very bad sponge breaks). hope this helps.

there is no Skid in this skidoo, the track is just Hanging on the floor ( sled is on Jacks).

As for the Chain Case itself, That was what i was re-ferring to. i'm having a HARD time with this c-clip, i do not have those set of Pliers. Anythign else i can use for this? i Have pliers designed for c-clips but not for these kinds! Very hard and tough to get at with the Drive shaft in the way. So Fustrating. My pliers are straight but at the top it has like hooks( like a 65Degree Bend to them) but cannot get around that Darn Driveshaft.

I will get pictures tommorw Of my Progress in the powder coating. Dont laugh when you see it.. Theres not a Thing on my sled, I somtimes feel like crying just looking at it.
It's a Sin.. 05 viper picked complelty apart, So guys out there Wanting to do some heavy mods to there New machine, Think Twice. Look where it has got me. LOL!
 
You shouldn't need to take that snap-ring off to get the chaincase off the sled. Take the 3 or 4 bolts(can't recall how many) off the chaincase and it should slide off the drive-shaft with the bearing still in the case. The snap ring just holds the bearing in the chain case.
 
well i took out all the bolts, took off the Break Caliper, took off the sprockets, chain, and still nothing. It wiggles but it dosn't slide. when i wiggle it it seems like the shaft to the secondary wiggles with it. I still don't know how to get the Actul Case off the sled.

CrewCheif, i think your right with the Bearings but im not 100% sure. theres nothing else Holding the Case onto the sled, confusing me a little there.
 
If the e-brake is still on the sled, the brake rotor is probably holding you up(or on in this case). The Rotor needs to come off with the case but if it's 'stuck' to the jackshaft(common), you could have a hell of a time. I ended up taking apart the e-brake(bitch to re-assemble) on mine and using a makeshift puller to get the rotor off.
 
your trying to hard. if you have the chain and gears out, take the 4 bolts out of the case and wiggle the case out (it will slide off the drive shaft and jack shaft). you dont even have to take the snap ring out.but the rotor has to be off too. take the speedo out of the other side b4.
 
Not trying to hi-jack your thread but I'm just woundering what the purpose of drilling the track. I've been riding for years but other then cans, pipes, clutching and studs everything else has been left stock.
 
track drilling i hear, Takes alot of Rotating Weight of your Track. rotating Weight is bad, so By drilling a track It frees sup some of that rotating weight, Got to be carefull because the wrong Drill or cut can cause your track to tear up. You have to do it right and Carefull and the track can last. This is what im told.

You dont need to pull that c-clip to get the chaincase out. Just pull the 4 bolts that mount it to the chassis and wiggle it a lot. You have to make sure you pull the brake rotor along with it if you dont take all the e-brake caliper components off. I have done this so many times i think i could do it in my sleep.
 
thanks for the info. So Basiclly it was a waste of Time Taking That top Sprocket C-clip off. BtW; Fast Post! i tried wiggling it and wiggling it but still dosn't want to come off. Do i just keep wiggling it off? seems like its sticking on that Secondary Shaft. Whenever i wiggle it that shaft seems like it wants to come off with it. anywas ill go try again, thanks!
 
The tolerances between those bearings and the shaft are tight, so you gotta really make sure that the top moves a little, then the bottom, etc. It is very easy to get it to bind up and it wont want to move. Take your time and shake the hell out of it and it will come. And as i said, make sure the brake rotor is coming with.
 
what about the speedo side? You dont need to touch the speedo side to get the chaincase out
 
Guarantee you that the broke rotor is stuck. Just keep wiggling and tugging and yanking and it will eventually pop off. You are on the right track.
 
Bah, I kept Yanking , tugging on it. It seems or feels liek if i keep tugging on it, somthign is going to break and ill be out another couple bucks.... Or just keep Doing it?

When i move the chain Case itself it Movies the Secondary shaft with it. After i got the Chaincase bolts off and the caliper off My momentum Just died. LOL! that cover is hard as hell to get off!!
 
how come you're taking the whole chaincase assembly off? it doesn't need to come off to get the track off the machine. just curious as to why you were taking it off.
