1994 vmax 600

Rear shocks

Funny,

I was just going to post the same question on my 94 600dx. There doesn't seem to be any "spring/bounce" left in the rear suspension. I'm assuming the shocks are finished, but I didn't look to hard.
We'll have to keep in touch in regards to this. I plan to replace to two rear shocks sometime this fall.

Keep me updated.

Thanks

GYT rear shocks from Yamaha. You'll prob have a hard time finding them though. They were pricey, about $300-350 from Yamaha I believe, but they're discontinued, some Yami dealers may have some laying around. These shocks were a "performance upgrade" according to Yamaha since so many people complained about the poor ride of the Vmax.

If you're looking to have a better ride don't bother on keeping that stock vmax skid, invest the money into a better skid and spend the time on the install.

well the skid is basicly brand new.....ever bushing replaced...all new bearings. If i could find a rx1 skid for 200 bucks shipped to my door with perfect conditions then i would do the switch out.

I bet you can find a cheap sx skid. look for the low travel skid, at least it will be better than what you have and NOONE wants them it seems, so it should be cheap :) then later on just long travel it and get another bump in performace :)

I use Öhlins on my Vmax4. Still looking for a one to the Front/rear shock though. My dealer is capable to building one, when I find a suitable shock.

rear suspension

I'm not trying to hijack the post, but I have a quick question with my rear suspension.

I just want to make sure it's the shocks that are weak on my rear skid. When you put weight on the back end the back end sinks like it normally should, however, it doesn't bounce back. Does this mean the rear shocks are dead? Or is it something else?

Thanks

the 96 xt skid was also sold as a GYT Suspension for the older pogo sleds. so yes, it is an upgrade and it will ride pretty damn nice. my dad had a 96 500 xt, it rode real nice, thats for sure!

Skids

Dave_Vmax600, good luck on the search, let me know if you find 2.

How about an srx skid? Is that at least comparable to the 94 dx skid? I know they are short travel, but is it at least the same travel as the dx?

Doesn't happen to be a straight bolt in does it?

Thanks for the help

well i guess i should be looking for an xt skid then.

If you're going to look for an XT skid, you may as well look for a Viper skid, SXr skid, RX-1 skid. These are essentially the same skid as the XT's had but have been re-worked to be a better skid. The XT was Yami's first attempt at long travel and they only made improvements along the way.

You'd have to do just as much aligning with an XT skid as you would any other. The only difference with the newer skids vs. the XT is that you will have to fab up some spacers (very easy) since the newer skids are a touch narrower than the older vmax skids. Did my 03 RX1 skid swap in one night. Check out vmax4.com for all the measurments you'll need to do this.

Dave, I am putting in a ARC/ARM suspension form a 1999 formula z 670 in my vmax the first week of september, picking up the sliders and rear idelers tomorrow!....its not to hard to do with any skid....just measure twice and drill once!!!! here is the skid in my 26th floor condo.....lol
