Hi all, I did the Viper rear skid deal in my SRX last year & I wasn't crazy about it.
I really like the SRX, but I like the rear feel on my friends ZL600
Has anyone tried an arctic cat torsion type rear skid in a SRX?
I've noticed that it's kind of simular to the new yamaha pro-action CK.
If so, is there a pattern or kit for mounting?

Have the shocks been revalved from stock? I had mine revalved from stock last year it made a huge diff. but not a big enough one. So I went Expert X this year.
 
I found his drawing...I hope you don't mind me posting them Sno-Xr. I saved them thinking I might drop a cat skid in my Viper.

^^^^^Ditto that my new rx1 still has the proaction so I hope to dump it in favor of something else. Although my viper with PP shocks was pretty damn nice, I'm interested in a little weight savings from a proactive, mono, or cat skid. Thanks
 
If you would hurry up and get some snow on those power lines, I would show you!! :na

I love it, it is a huge improvement. My biggest problem with the Pro-action is that it just doesnt keep up in the woops, the rear end would jump from one side of the trail to the other. And the rebound when you hit a nasty G-bump is hell. Ever hear of a Flying-W!!( kinda like an unintentional superman)
The Cat skid eats up most everything without the rebound kick. Also, I can actually sit on the seat when ripping across studder bumps.
Highly recommended alternative to a $1500 M-10 or Expert X
 
Thanks...It looks like a fairly simple swap. I'm guessing cat skids are easy to come by and rather inexpensive. I could easily sell the stock Viper S skid. Hmmm......

That's what I don't like about what I have.
Crusing on less than prefect trails can be a beating on the body.
If I'm tearing it up, the Viper set-up is pretty good, but you have to always on the gas & butt off the seat

BTW, I "Viperized" my front last year too. So the travel should be good

did you revalve those shocks too? if it were me, I would do a proactive if you wanted a torsion spring feel. dad has an 05 vector, and it really rides pretty sweet :)
 
I just finished putting a '04 ZR 900 Sno Pro rear suspension in my '98 XTC. I used Sno XR's measurements for the most part. I think it will work real well. The front already has the long travel shocks (need recharging though), so ride height is good. For the front mount support I used the big washer bracket from the stock rear and the rear mount drills into the inside rear stock bracket for support.

I'll post some pics. Only cost me 350 for the suspension which I believe is a "no-brainer" investment over the no-action.

Couple burns around the lawn and it transfers weight awesome!
 
maine,, cant remember, what version of shock did you end up with?

also, what is your weight, what fra setting, what is your total gap on rods?
 
Someone put one in a SX . Im not sure, but I think that the center to center of the rails may be different than on a standard 15" wide track suspension.

Monker put a firecat skid in his SX. I spoke w/ him about it a while ago, didn't seem too difficult. I went w/ a skid from a ZR 900 sno pro for mine, install wasn't too bad (thanks to Sno-Xr....with a few minor changes ;)! ) I can post some pics when I get some

Hey Scott, We went with stock shocks, that soft spring you gave me for the front, fra set on soft, limiters set at 10mm, rods set dead center (with me on it) and total of 25mm ( i think) & I'm 210 lbs. 220 in gear.
Last year wasn't the greatest, but I did sqeak out 600 miles.

When your in the tight stuff wanting to rip, it rips very nice. It had little push going in, but a little ski presure fixed that.
Just when it's time to just sit back and enjoy the sights, I get beat up.
If I ride the ZL600, it's pretty sweet on shutters & small whoops!

I was thinking of going with the Mono RA, but I read that Yamaha is putting the torsion in more sleds because the RA is too soft for bumps

I know it's hard to get the best of both worlds, just looking for the best for me
RS RAGE is still a on the table as an option

depends on if you are hammering bumps or not. torsion is better at that, but mono is a great trail skid. so if you are seein gthe sights and still pushing it somewhat the mono might be exactly what you want :)
