Thank all!

I'm in Ontario so not much snow... I just purchased a little piece of heaven in
Quebec, (North, More snow). I wont be doing much trail riding, mostly blasting around the lake, Not to say I wont be carving new tracks. The Property is surrounded by Forrest and Skidder trails.

I would suggest you should look for at least a 136" sled because that 121" is going to disappoint you on the skidder trails. That said, don't overlook a Venture 6/700. They are 136 and the seat and backrest can be shed to lose the weight. If you watch the forum, a single seat can be had pretty cheap. Add some decent shocks, different track (the stock tracks sucks on everything up to, I think, 2002) and you have a great boondocker. If I were to do it again, I'd start with a 700. The sled in my signature is a 2000 Venture 600.

I wouldnt look for a 136, I am still not sold on this setup after riding both, only if I was hitting up non-groomed trails. since I never ride off trail, I or anyone else (imho) that doesnt do off-trail riding has any real advantage with a 136. but thats just me :)

I am definatley looking at long tracks... Do any other models come in long track? 97-2000... Vmax came in long track?

BTW, Searched the site for "Importing", Question aswered.

As you already know, for those model years, the ventures had the longtrack out of the bunch at 136". Then you had the mountain sleds, which are rather rare to find here in Ontario, and they have the mountain specific, deep lug track, narrow ski stance and mountain grab bar, taller riser, etc.., not exactly the best for anyone wanting to trail ride. But off trail they would rock! Iv seen some mountain sleds on the trails, but with at least the track swapped out for a shorter lug track, some of them had the widened front end. The V-max long track preety much is the venture, unless you want to get a mountain max.

As crewcheif said, dont overlook the ventures, I never notice the length of my track on trails when compared to a 121", but you sure notice the difference offtrail, in a positive way!, I can do circles around them when they are stuck. Mind you, my venture is only a 500 fanny, but you can see what you can make these things look. It doesnt look as cool as crewcheifs, but it definately stands out! Just look at my signature..

AND, incase you didnt already notice, the tripples sound so good, that if you could package the way they sound into an edible product, everyone would be obese!, these things sound and perform incredible! Plus, did anyone mention that they are smooth as silk, lol

The riding must be great in Espanola!
I'm up every summer at Lake Manitou...

I will look closer at the ventures.

You are both correct about the Type of riding I would be doing here in Ontario at the Cottage. I have also riden Deep snow machines on hard pack, and yes they do fall over.

How much work was it to Change the seat rear lights etc? Which years had the triple? Which year has the 9"FR and 11.5 R.?

I love the look of the Venture with the One up seat.

M.

If im correct, the Venture700 tripple came out around or in 97, and it was in green, then the 600 triple came out for 99, and they were red in that year, both 700,600 triple, and 500LC twin, and the XL was in green. The 600 came out after the 700 did. They all had the 9" in the front and 11.5" in the rear. I know im right from 99 and on, but not so sure about to 97.

Crossing it over wasnt a big deal. Wires just couple together, no problem. For the passenger bars, they were mounted with 8 rivets through the tunnel (4 on both sides), and are only accessable by removing the seat. All you have to do is drill them out. Everything else bolts right off, absolutely no problem. The light swap was really easy, just two bolts with nuts on them. Other things to consider when converting is the foot rests, which ar eno problem removing, and the mirrors, along with the backrack and tow bumper. It was a really easy conversion.

And ya, the riding around here is preety good, I actually feel quite fortunate to have snow for a long time and very good trails and lakes, and it never gets boring!

I would leave the mirrors though. nice to have, and they would leave holes in the hood :) but for a long LONG time I hated mirrors. guess I am old now ;)

Mountain Max/ Twin or Triple

Hi all,

One more quick question.

I am looking at 3 Mountain max's.
1997 600
1999 600
2000 600.

Which is the Twin and which are Triples?

I no they are not intended for Eastern Trail riding, But my use will be more off trail. Can I set these things up to handle O.K. on Hard pack. I am also looking at Venture's, which I would install a single seat, to shed wieght.

All comments appreciated!

Although the SX 600 turned into a triple in 99, the Mountain Max 600 was still a twin for one more year probably due to the "Smart Carb" altitude compensator system the only the 600 twin utilized. I know I am biased toward the triples but I would lean toward the 2000 if it is the Mountain Max 600 you desire.

The Mountain Max's still make nice trail sleds as they are not true long tracks by today's standards, being only 136 or 144 (I dont recall) they are what today would be considered "cross over" length sleds.

00 for me but just my opinion
