Viper S Studding

the front protectors are welded top and bottom. i wouldnt try cutting the top welds. cut the bottom welds, stick a screwdriver in the protector and wiggle it until the upper weld breaks. it will break a lot cleaner than you could ever cut it.

Personally i would NOT stud a 1.25 inch track in a yamaha proaction chassis without going to 8 tooth drivers, not worth the risk. A torn up heat exchanger will end your day up north in a real hurry.

it is a staggered paddle and lugs flex more than studs do. Also, I meant 1.175 which gets you closer.
 
even if you factor in a little amount of lug flex, the studs wont do much if anything if they dont protrude past the lugs at least 1/4"
 
honestly i think that if you wanted the small amount of traction addition that studs barely protruding would afford you, you would be better of with an ice claw or ice ripper with all those little lug studs. Not going to win you any drag races, but the added safety of studs is there for stopping and to prevent excess slide-out.
 
I have an 04 Viper S and went through this mess last winter. I used hockey sticks for tunnel protectors (works great) and got front exchanger protectors from an 02 that fit very tight but fine. Am running a 1.25 ripsaw with the 1.35 studs....It works fine. Put 3000k on it last winter with no problems and not one scuff.
 
Hi Faceman, Does the Viper S have the 8" driver or did you change to them? I have 8" drivers on the way but would rather not go through the work of changing it if I no not need.
 
Studding

Yamaham. I'm not sure. It is the stock setup. This whole saga went round and round last year b4 I finally studded the track. There wasn't a listing for front tunnel protectors for an 04 and I believe the protectors are for an 02 SRX. It's amazing the information/mis-information out there. :dunno: I talked to 5 different dealers/ service managers and got 5 different opinions. That shouldn't happen. All said and done, I'll never go back to clean track.

Faceman, I am getting the same, talked to a couple stud mfgers at the Sled show last weekend, some said no problem the way it is(there buddys did it) others said I need smaller driver. I would like to take the easy way out, however usally the easy way ends up being the rough road.......
 
I didnt feel like screwing around with 8" drivers and the gear change so i just bought a 1" 9830 track and added 144 1.125 extreme max studs with srx heat exchangers-worked great.
