I've been using Mobil 1 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Oil in my yami chaincases for several years.
Hey Mr viper.. I agree with you!!! (what do you know!!!) People think that they need 90WT GEAR LUBE in their chaincase.. For WHAT REASON,, I don't know... Did you ever try turning a pinion flange from a rear end when its ZERO outside????? That gearlube is like TAR!!!!! I've used synergyn (no longer available) and I STRONGLY recomend a SYNTHETIC trans fluid,,,but,,, MOST people change their gearlube every year (you should if you don't). LUCAS oil makes a synthetic trans fluid that works wonders!!!!! Gary Oles nosboy

Gary, the world is going to end as we know it now...........LOL!!!
There is also this company that marketed ER (energy release). It was a moly disulfide based lubricant that was a MILLION times better than anything else out there.. The price shy'ed people away from it and I haven't seen it around the "snowmobile market" in a few years,,,but,,, that stuff was a ZILLION times better than anything out there!!! That stuff has a MIL spec that the government uses!!!! They have been using it since the 1940's.. I don't know if it's available anymore,,but,,, I talked with that guy EXTENSIVELY at a trade show a bunch of years back And we talked about peoples buying habits (among other things).. Some people are just STUCK!!! You could SHOW THEM a better product (10 times better) and they will still stick with their INFERIOR product!!! They will JUSTIFY on how they NEVER had any trouble with their inferior product, and keep using it!!! Kinda like how I feel about YAMALUBE!!!! I'm not going to get into a peeing match with anyone about this topic... trans fluid is a GREAT IDEA!!!!! Gary Oles nosboy
I hope the world don't end ANYTIME SOON!!!! I WANT TO RIDE this winter!!!!!
FIAT used a fluid in their manual trannies that was made from WHALE BLUBBER.. I worked at a Ford dealer in the early 1980's and I was a TRANS GUY.... We used to get these cars called BERTONI's and they were made by FIAT!!!! i used to install clutches in them, and when you puled the trans,, THE WHOLE SHOP SMELLED LIKE FISH!!!! (they said around the shop that it smelled like SOMETHING ELSE) but,,, I'm NOT GOING TO GO THERE!!!! Needless to say,,, that WHALE BLUBBER fluid was some EXPENSIVE STUFF,,, but it SURE DID WORK WELL!!!!! ( I thought you'd get a kick out of that story!!!) gary Oles nosboy

What is the cost of the synthetic ATF fluid? The Amsoil synthetic 2000 is only $6.00.

I think I pay around $4.00 a quart...I buy cases of the stuff because my racecar (and my opponents) LOVE keeping me at the stageing lights for a LIFETIME, COOKING my trans fluid!!!!! Needless to say, I go through a LOT of it!!!! As far as the BERTONI's. I don't remember what model,,, but the cars were WAY COOL!!!! Everyone at the Ford dealer HATED working on them EXCEPT me!!! i don't know why they didn't like them,,but they paid 5 house to do a clutch!!!! The motor and trannies were in the trunk and you could do a clutch in an hour and a half!!!! Work an hour and a half and GET PAID for FIVE HOURS!!!! Whats wrong with that????? No, I DIDN'T MAKE THE PRICES.. I just swung the wrenches!!! I used to take them to the forest preserves and drive the hell out of them down those winding roads!!!! Yeah, that was a blast!!! I buy cases from the warehouse because NOBODY wants to stock it (for some reeason), it usually takes a week to get an order and I usually get 5 or 6 cases at a time!!! The racecar enjoys 12 quarts every oil change... and 8-9 quarts of 50wt or 60wt motor oil!!!( depending on how thirsty she is!!!

we use Canadian Tire's synthetic 75W-90 in 4 SRX's - seems to work fine.

how often should you change your chaincase oil?

I change mine every 1000-1500 miles. Its so easy to do, cheap, and really can save you a lot of havoc. Also makes it real easy to get the chain adjusted just right and inspect all the bearings while you are in there.

viper7mi said:I switched to Amsoil interceptor last year, but I changed the chaincase oil and put stock Yamalube oil in the Viper. What chaincase oil do you use? Thanks.
