I will be going to a radar run event and I was wondering if anybody has any pointers?

99 srx 700 cold air, jetted, carbon tech reeds, bender can, 23/37 gears
h/c 4.8g in heel 7g in toe straight 45 deg helix red spring 5.3 poo idler wheels
shaved track 144 ice picks
thanks

is that 7 grams in 1st hole closest to the pin or the tip??? I would get a helix around a 50/36-50/40 and use all the weight in the tip

That would be 7g in the tip. I'm going by your write up in the tech section.
now I just have to find a helix with the angles you recommend. Do you have any start point for the secondary tension (spring color) degree of twist?

Thanks

for radar top speed runs I would use a red secondary and run only the amount of tension required to just barely controll the shift. If you dont get the right heix none of the clutching is going to work with a 45 degree angle helix, its too steep of a finish and youll be very low on topend rpm.

take out 48 pics. 96 is all you need. duct tape all the vents in the hood closed except the top 2. leave the bender can on. it actually adds a couple hp in the mid range & top on the dyno. as mr. v. says - tip weight - to squeeze the belt on top end. lowest finish angle helix you can run to squeeze the belt @ top end. red sec. spring set way loose ( need to do a slow roll out & squeeze into throttle so as not to suck belt ). never run a old belt. break in new ones, they are always faster. pull front end down with straps & loosen front springs. shorten rear skid limiter. full preload on front of rear spring & less on rear of rear. make sure track sits flat on level surface. add lots of wheels to skid. lock out transfer rods ( no transfer ). should cross the line @ 8500. those are just some of the basics. there is a bunch more.
what is the lug height? what distance will you be running? what is the surface conditions of the race track?

I will be running 2000 ft And I have a shaved camoplast track glare ice track. I just need to find a helix.

Also not sure what make of helix to go with. I heard different companies measure their angles different. (maybe dalton or Yamaha factory)?

What's the distance of radar run?I use to run radar runs all the time the best I could get out of the heel clickers in a 1000ft was around 103mph.With 8dn 00's was around 105.And heavy hitters was the best weight mph weight I have ran.I made over a hundred passes testing.

3.) 120 mph is highly unlikely in 2000' for a stock srx. probably around 112-115 on a good day.
When we were at rib lake, in 2000' which is pretty much maxed out top speed, My srx pulled a 123 MPH and the entire engine is stock. There was another SRX there that was pulling those same numbers aswell. If you are clutched to perfection and everything is running right, you will get very close to 120.

I was wondering if my hauck roller secondary would work with my dalton 48/36 helix with my h/c in the primary (4.8g heel) 7g tip)? If so what spring and twist would be a good start point.

gates stick with the button rear clutch for radar runs and top speed, work with a red secondary spring.

Cool, Thanks for all the setup info guy's. I'll let you know how I make out with my test run's.

Hmmmmm? Ok from what I have found on my 780 Viper with a Hauck roller running on snow. Drag racing other sleds the softer I run the secondary spring the quicker the sled but the lower the mph. Last season I ran a radar run 600' on the snow & was shocked @ how low the mph was but how well the sled ran against all the other sleds in the 800 improved class. Screwing around mid day inbetween classes I tossed in the yami silver set @ 60/70/80 & finally 100 twist. Every turn tighter made the sled faster mph, @ 100 twist the sled picked up 12 mph on the gun. So I figured I was on to somthing & tried to race it set that way........ Big mistake, Sleds I was whoopin on had me by 3-4 lenghts in 600' with the faster mph/tight secondary. Not sure why it works that way but racing go with the quicker/softer setup & speed runs the stiffer/faster setup.
