I made my own two wheel rear end kit on my exciter for a whoping $8.97. Pictured in this picture.

Theoretically it's supposed to allow the track to bend up for better sidehilling. To tell you the truth I'm not sure hom much this happens or even how much this helps. They sell a lot of kits out there to convert to this setup and Polaris is now making their sleds like this stock.

I don't see how you're doing it for only 9$.
Dont you need a shorter axle and stuff?
If you can show me how to do it for 9$ I will do it tomorrow night.

Well, it's actually closer to $10
The origional axle has a nut threaded on to one end and a bolt threaded into the other end and goes the full distance for two outside wheels and one inside wheel. The wheels slide over this axle and are spaced to the correct positions by a collars that slide over the axle.
At the hardware store I bought a 7/16 grade eight bolt and washer for ~1.50 and a drill and tap combo for ~7.50.
I cut the bolt end (not the nut end) off the axle at the correct length and drilled and tapped a new hole for the new bolt. Threaded that in with the washer, then added one of the larger washers that was previously on the axle.
That was all that had to be done to the axle, next I had to cut the collar down. Between the rails is a long collar and a short one to locate the wheel in the right position (I don't know why Yamaha chose to use one wheel in the rear on just one side). Anyway, I cut a section off the long collar equal to the length of the short one and then cut the long one down the rest of the way to correctly locate the second wheel inside the rails.
Then just bolt it all together.
I guess I'll do a full writeup just for the heck of it. I can get the measurements up here soon.

remember this is a mod for mountain riding not trail pounding. it helps for side hilling and powder playing. it will hamper a sled in handling on a trail. mountain riders only ride the trails a few miles here or there to get to play areas. ski

Wierd, you're saying the bolt on yours (circled) is not actually a bolt, but it's a hole with another bolt going into it?

they changed the rear axle when they went to the proaction

actually marsman there is a rollpin through that bolt to hold it in there. i have broken a couple and just tapped out the hole bigger and used loctite with a coarse thread bolt to put it back together.

Exactly. The shaft is just aluminum with a bolt taped into the one end of it. All I did was shorten it and do the same thing.

Vmax, that's a nice looking sled you've got there. Clean!
Daman, plenty of power to spare. I think I've got the sled down to ~400 pounds so it's light. To make room for the lugs I had to move to seven tooth drivers so that geared me down a ton. Actually I've got an over revving problem that I've got to fix because the clutches don't have to work very hard to spin the track.
I only get a top speed of about 30 mph right now because the secondary isn't shifting like it should. Even at that it's still climbing right next to my buddy on his 700 polaris with a 151.

wow 30 mph that has to suck even when climbing. Good luck with the setup!

yep, it sure does. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow I should have the problem solved.
