Does anyone have, or know where to get a taller seat and bar rizers for a 04 Viper S. I'm 6' 2'', 200lbs and can only ride for 2 hours before my knee bothers me. Sat on a Cat on the weekend and it feels mutch better. I don't want to trade my sled in for a Cat, and I can't afford a new Yamaha or Polaris. Anyone else get cramped on the Viper? And what is the salution?

im about your height and weight. i have a 5.25 bar riser with a boss standard seat. my knees never bother me but i sit on the tank when riding hard and stand when its rough. look at the boss high rise seat and then get a articulated riser. much more comfortable.

Seat and handle bar risers are always popular posts on this site. If you search around you are sure to find quite a bit of information on both.

As seat risers go, Excell Motorsports is the only company making seat risers for Vipers that I know of. This could be a lower cost altrenative to a Boss seat. See link below.

However, since these risers are pretty expensive, many TY members have made their own which you should see if you search on this topic.

There are many options for raising you handle bars. Just keep in mind that you will have to use longer throttle and brake cables if you use a riser taller than 2". Rich at Rich Motorsports can set you up with these. I am partial to the Rox pivot riser myself. I just installed a 2" Rox pivot riser on my Viper this fall. Depending how long your arms are, you might be able to get away with a 2" pivot riser. I am 5' 10" and the 2" riser feels great for me. You can also get one of these from Rich Motorsports as well.

Good luck. G.B.

i went 5.25 on the rise and the longer cables are tight. i used the powermadd throttle extender and had to modify it a bit to fit the yamaha cable ends but heard they are now setup for yamaha ends. i also had to extend all electrical as well as the others mentioned, but well worth in the end,

I use to have the same problem with comfort to,I put and excell seat riser on and 3 inch bar riser and tilted my bars forward and it is a completly diferent sled

Thanks for the info guy's. There is a local guy that the dealer uses for seat alterations. I'll give him a call. As for the riser, I think I will try a 2'' block and an adapter, together they should raise it 3 1/4 inches. I will also get longer cables. If all this doesn't work I'll have a mint Viper for sale!!

For the money a boss seat is a pretty good investment, I love mine, 3 inches higher than stock and light as a feather. I also added a 4inch riser and didn't even have to get longer cables or handlebar. I just rerouted my cables. Good luck!:letitsnow

I just bought the Excell Motorsports seat riser and I know it is we have not had a ton of snow but when Chicago got pounded a couple of weeks ago I put on some miles and was the happiest person in the world. I got pounded last year so I added the riser and re-valved the shocks from Pioneer. NIGHT AND DAY. If you have a Viper you have to send your shock to Pioneer.

The boss seat is really nice, but at probably close to $800.00CND with the exchange, shipping etc, I'm going to try and have it altered. The dealer said around $200.00. If its not going to look good I'm going to fab up a seat riser. It doesn't look to difficult.

I added a 3 in riser with a longer brake cable and rerouted all the cables. The brake line was a little tight, better to be safe than sorry.

You can make a seat riser for under $20. That is my next project to make for the sled.

1 can of Great Stuff foam that gets hard
2 pcs of 1/4 plywood (17X24)
1 pce of wood for the back to bring it to the 3 inches in the back
1 pce of black vinyl and staple around
2 longer bolts or modify existing bolts

It is basically a wedge, you cut to the size of the seat, sand wood edges and foam. Wrap in black vinyl and staple. You may even want to paint the wood after you get it sanded. You have to get some longer bolts or adapters to modify the existing bolts.

I will post a picture later this week.

Do a search for seat riser and another TY person has done made this seat riser and used it for a year with no problems and it looks good. It gives you a more rider forward position.

I'm not an expert in seat making. I think it will help my seat position.

I don't understand how a seat riser gives you more rider foward?
all it looks like it does is tip the back up, the front of the seat is still the same height?
isn't it? if the whole seat was 2" higher I would want one, but it looks like the seat is just at a angled sloped to the front. not like a Boss high rise

someone on here too their seat and mounted it on top of the tank and ahead, then made a lower section to finish it off, think it was a mountain guy.
looked kind of rough but a trip to the apholsterer would have made it look way better.

raised the seat about 4in and ahead about 4-5.

I don't want the seat more forward, my knees will be bent more. I'm going to find some pics of the boss seat and take them to the apholsterer. If I have to bring him the sled I will. Hopefully he can raise it 3'' and cover part of the tank. That way the whole seat can be raised. Also that little back rest will be gone. Right now I'm sitting on that thing most of the time and its very uncomfortable. Standing up when riding is next to impossible.

another option is to throw 3-5" of dense foam under the seat and rewrap it with the oem seat cover. There are a few people on the board that has done this and it provided an actual 2-3"(once it's compressed) rise throughout the entire seat area.

I was going to attempt the homemade seat riser idea, but I think increasing the seat height with the increased foam is the way to go.

I think thats the way to go too, but I'm not sure if there is enough meterial to cover the seat after the foam is put in. I'm still trying to get a hold of the apholsterer. seems he doesn't like to turn his cell on.

I would like to see a seat that has been stretched how much will the cover stretch to increase height? I can see the seat being firmer but not 3" taller??

I like those seat risers, but they want $250 for them!!!!!!!

A Boss seat is a better investment in my opinion. This fall they are dropping the price on all black models to $399.00. If you want colors and options you can still special order seats same as always.

+1 for the seat riser. I didn't have one but my sled had skid drop brackets in the back, same effect as the seat riser. I also added about 2.5" rise to the handlebars..the combination of the 2 made a huge difference in the feel of the sled. The back is raised higher than the front, I thought that worked fine because I'd sit back farther on the seat which stretched out my legs a little. Plus you can slide up to the front and sit low if you want to. I loved it. As cheap as it is to make a seat riser I'd give it a try and see how you like it before spending the $$ for a Boss seat, if I were you.
