suspension install #$@*$#@

Just did this last night! All the above work well.

If you have a floor jack, it makes it VERY easy to lift the skid into the tunnel. With the transfer rod bolts out the center bolts line right up. Then drop back end to allow you to put TR bolts back in. Once bolts are in raise back end again and lift skid with jack to line up rear holes, it should be dead on or darn close at this point. Align track and tighten up the axel...Your done!

A little pressure forward on the rear axle can eliminate the need to loosen the transfer rods. Try it.

Proaction Install!

I just put my viper suspenion back in this week. I raised the sled using a track stand. Had a bit of trouble slipping the suspension in, it is a pretty tight fit to get it to go through the sides of the track. Did front bolts first, then did the rear ones, since when I dropped the sled down to try and get the middle, the rear's were lined up perfectly. Then I raised the sled a bit, loosend the quick adjustor and made sure it was all the way to the top (sofest setting) then I used two raquet straps tied to each side of the aluminum shaft and tied the other end to the top of the front sway arm. Pushed it into place by hand and then Tightened straps until bolt holes lined up. Worked good. I tried to remove transfer rod bolts, but they were seized up.

i have done both ways but prefer to turn sled on its side and put the skid in. you could pull the track all the way to the rear and then just slide the skid in without it being a tight fit.i have done this many times by myself but a helping hand is always better. no big deal though.

yep just put mine back in took about 20min real easy if you tip in on the side, rest the backside of the tunnel on a milk carton to keep it stable. It just makes more sense this way if tryed the other way and its a pain, why push something up when you can stand ant lean and push sideways. plus with the milk carton holding it up you can reach the bolts on the other side from the same side. its real easy. the hardest part about the track change was rememberin ghow the e brake springs went on.

Just want to thank the genius's who were kind enough to suggest loosening the bolts at the bottom of the transfer rods. I just swapped an 03 Viper skid into an 02 SRX... love the SRX but the ol' bod is 50 years old and the original suspension was just getting a bit too hard on me.
Again, thanks guys for posting tricks like this... so simple, but I was about to sit down and drink a whole case of beer and try to will those damn middle bolts in.

I have a heavy duty hook in the shop ceiling with a rope and pulley attached just for doing the susp. Easy to raise and lower then I use an floor jack and rachet strap to fine tune the alignment, piece of cake.

I always do my skid work with the machine on the trailer (mines not covered). It puts the sled at a good working height (like a sled lift) and it's easy to see everything. I also use a 1-ton chain lift hanging from the ceiling ($35 at Harbor Freight) which lets me lift the back up high for some tasks and let me raise and lower it really slowly to line up the bolts.

If leaving the rear axle in, loosening the transfer rods is the ticket. I usually take out the rear axle since it make it easier when I am working alone, and lets me access the hyfax easily.

I do mine very simular to srxBob. Works like a charm, done in less the 30mins...

I used the method in the tech section on my 2002 viper with a track change and the skid went back together slick as could be. I think i even short changed myslef on a beer break it was so easy.

All good suggestions, I have done with the sled upright, with it on it's side and also upside-down (w/gas tank removed). I don't recommend the last way, but I was fixing a leak in the front heat exchanger and put a new track in at the same time. BUT I prefer to work alone, that way I don't have to share my friggin beer with anybody!

Ok, dumb question, I keep seeing reference to loosening the transfer rods. What are the transfer rods? I can't seem to find a picture of a transfer rod?

Ok, I must have found them since the suspension went in easier than it ever has! Front, back, middle... Just have to remember that for next time!

Thanks!
Mike
