Go with the straps and throw those freek'en transfer rods as far as you can.
You'll love it. :letitsnow

the transfer enhancement kit is ALOT better. it dosent cost as much either. if your a guy who loves goin straight up, get the kit......u will be impressed. :winterrul

No transfer rods on a sled that runs in deep snow helps the skis from plowing when on the gas and gives you more traction because the wieght is transfered back were you can work with it.Side hilling is improved as you can lean the skid over without the rods binding in there holders.Trail rideing for a long time can be unconfortable as the skid will lean over in the corners, and keeping the skis on the trail when on hard packed is the other issue. You can have the best of both if you use short rods that are mounted 2 inches behind the rod that holds the small H arm.The long ones dont work they will not let the sled transfer at all.Run a 2 inch gap by removing a nut off your rods or rewelding the top washer higher.Than cut a slot in the large plastic washers shims and snap them over the rod when you are on the trail or a lake and you want less transfer.I found non slip drivers and a reinforsed w arm should be installed as well.

i was also wondering about installing the transfer enhancement kit, right now i have the adjustable transfer rods. this kit would eliminate the rods, and just use straps? can you install the kit with the skid in the sled?

Skid has to come out and the rods go away. The transfer kit drops quite a bit of weight too and is very easy to adjust. I took off all the idlers and put scratchers on while I was at it. Didn't weigh it before and after, but the saving was significant.

No probablem installing straps with skid in. Easy and Simple. The instructions that come with the MPI kit are simple to follow. Hour tops.

While it can be done with the skid in, you still need partially remove it in order to pull the upper rear shaft and upper idlers to remove the transfer rods and install the supplied spacers. IMO just as easy to pull the skid entirely + a good opportunity to check out the front arm for cracks and inspect the rest of the bushings.

Put my MPI transfer kit in the 01 MM this year.
All I can say is WOW.
You do not have to remove the entire skid,
just parts.
The only better thing I did to my sled was Turk's Clutching.
It made the difference between fun and taking my Bender pipes
and trying for the new Olympic record for the pipe toss.

kit

i made the kit my self (with the help of some ty members). and it cost me about 8.25. for the spacers a used a set of rods that i had laying around i just cut them a bit,and the straps i got them at home hardware,i never had a chance too try them yet but i think they will work fine..do a search for pic's of a transferenhancment kit and you will see the replys i got.ps i have a 2001 mmax 700..reddog

has anyone made the spacers out of anything else besides old transfer rods? i would like to make my own kit, but i am not ready to cut up the old adjustable transfer rods.

I'm in the middle of making my own transfer enhancement kit and ran into a problem of getting the upper guide wheels off. It looks like they are pressed on so I've been beating on them from the inside to push them off but they don't seem to be moving. Can anyone tell me the trick to get them off?

i just did mine and it was the same way. put the bolts back in and give them a good smack with a heavy hammer. they push themselves off. anyone got any pics of there kit?

Did mine in the fall
Remove the inner cir clip
Use a gear puller on the bearing.
Only take off one side to remove everything.
Just a little time saver.

I´ve heard about ratcheting problems with the kit. Is it true?

This might be true if you don't have anti-ratch wheels. This is caused by transfer kit because it will not move suspension back when pressed down.
