Can I use any year srx 700 cylinder 98-02?

I want to have this seld back on the trail by the beginning of the week so I need to be getting my parts ordered like yesterday. I cant imagine there would be any difference in the years cylinder wise but just want to make sure before I go wasting any money.
 
the cylinders are different but you could run any of them and it will be fine. The differences in the port heights isn't that drastic, and sometimes the difference is close enough that is almost falls within the tolerances of the specs. So if you find one from a different year and its in good shape and a decent price, go ahead and use it.

Thanks 'holic22 I will do that.
 
If you mix match the 98-99 cylinders with 2000 and up the post timing will be all different.I don't recommend it at all.
 
few questions:

1.)When you replaced the other 2 cylinders, were they new stock cylinders? what is the marking cast on the sides of them, 8dn-00 or 8dn-10?

2.)the cylinder that went out was ported, are the other 2?

3.) are the heads all the same casting number 8dn-00 or 8dn-10?
 
I have a good used 98-99 cylinder and 3 brand new pistons, rings, and wristpins. These are brand new never run. They came out of a sled that had a big bore kit installed before it was ever fired.

NOt sure, again dealer did it for me but I'll know more tonight because Im def. going to pull the other heads and get a pic of the wash for you. On a good note I got some help finding crewcheifs post in techpages on cleaning carbs and now it should be no sweat at all. I get out of work at 6 and will be heading to the garage to take a look. THis time Im going to take the carbs apart and clean them the right way. I probably made things worse by doing what I did shooting spray up in at everything. It probably crammed dirt and stuff into the pilot and main jets which is why it detonated. If I cant find a cheap solution I maybe on the market for a newer srx 01 or 02 and part this one out. Im still on the fence. There is a sentimental part to this sled being that ive spent so many hours on it and have gone completely throught her so I do know what I have. Who knows.

WHat are you looking to get for 1 clyinder/head piston combo. Jus t curious for now but Ill have a better Idea tomorro what I will need.
 
i think he will found 2 stock cylinder and one ported loll and the one who burn gonna be because the dealer didnt know about it and put that sled to lean

Yup I did. Clutch side cylinder 8dn-00 695cm3 y2
middle cylinder 8dn-__ (last two numbers were missing?)695cm3 y1
chaincase cylinder 8dn10 695cm3 y1
jet size
clutch side 153.8
middle 153.8
chaincase side 155
note that after cleaning carbs properly I confirmed that pilot jets were pretty much 80% restricted by debree in chain side and middle cylinder!. I cant believe that they didnt blow! The last carb pilot was good but the main had something in it caus when I blew in it it sounded stuck at first and then cleared out. Correct me if Im wrong but you dont have to remove the big white washer clip on the end of the main it come off with the sleeve. Great directions by crewchief I wouldnt of done it with out them. Ive got some pics of the center cylinder and head. It looks great after 2000 miles I think. As for the fuel screws it seem like they were all like 6 turns out which from what Ive heard on here is like two times too much. This has me a bit concerned. I have them back all the way in and the notches where the screwdrivers go all seem to be stopping at the same point.

well..... you have a 98-99 cylinder on one and a 2000-02 cylinder on the other, they are differnt port specs.

How about the heads, all the same number?

are all 3 pics of the same cylinder?

yes if u take a look mr viper you will see those cylinder are not ported and the first one who burn was ported ..... bad dealer guy
 
well if you would look modsrx and tell me those are ported or not by those pics you have some awfull good eyes.

I would want to see the bottoms with reed blocks out of engine.
 
well go see on is other post where is show picture of the burn piston ...you are the one who see the triple port was ported and those one doesnt seem to be ported at all in those auxiliary

I forgot to write down the head part numbers. I did look at them and they were not the same number. I believe they were off by like one digit on the end. Im not working today so ill go over to the garage and take a look.
 
That pic was of the middle cylinder only. heads from clutch side over are 8dn00-0g2
middle was 8dn00-0g1 and last was 8dn00 - 0g2
Apparently mixing the port timing cant be that big of a deal because Ive been running it like this for about 2000 miles with no issue on those cylinders. The issue I had was the one that wasnt replaced by the dealer.
