Sounds about right.
My '97 600 runs 8200 then drops down a bit and starts inching up to 7900 or so. 7800 is the sweet spot for the twins.

Ya there are a lot of posts about the 600 twin's power band being at 7800.
I've spun mine up to 8300 a few times after my rebuild and before I replaced the weights. It sure sounds sweet at that speed.

yes 7800 is where you want to be. After that it starts losing power. In the first year, I experimented lots with my MM. I even had a few dyno sheets that show all that, just a matter of finding them.
