Hey guys

Finally got a chance to go out and do some runs today, did some swearing when i was done doing them to lol.
The first run was fine, stretch was about a quarter mile long give or take, held it wide open from the get go and the machine was fine. Only problem was it wasnt revving to what it should be. My understanding for an 02 srx is it should rev to 8500 rpm... correct me if i'm wrong, i could only push 8100 rpm tops. The second run the light started flashing towards the end of the run. Third run started to flash sooner. I ran it again wide open and then hit the kill switch so i could check how the plugs were burning. I pulled all 3 and they were all burning the same, All 3 plugs were golden brown, maybe a little on the lean side it wasnt a nice dark golden brown it was a lighter colour. I just dont understand why the hell this light keeps coming on.... I've made all the adjustments as per the recommendations. I'm running 150 pto main, and 148.8 in the middle and mag cylinder. Stock pilot jets, and fuel screws 1.5 turns out from lightly seated. Needles are raised in the 3.5 position and the carbs are definately clean. The last run i made was a long one and i varied the speed just so i could see when the light would come on. It wouldnt come on unless the machine was at 7900 rpm. It came on once at 7900 rpm, i then let off and pinned it again and this time it didnt come on till 8100 rpm.
I know my clutching is off. I dont really want to tear into the clutching until i get the new helix and that way i can set everything up the way i want it. Could the clutching being off like it is affect the dcs system on the machine?? I could see it affecting it if it was over revving but its barely hitting 8000 rpm. I dont currently know offhand what i have the primary weighted at i installed the heelclicker last year. I ran what heelcliker said in there instructions but i forget what it was.
The powervalves on the machine are cleaned and adjusted properly, i used the 900 rpm method and adjusted them so they were flush with the exhaust port so that can't be the cause of the light flashing. And i know the servo is working because i had the cover off and saw it actuating the cables.

Guys this is extremely frustrating many #$%&* have been yelled and its like im banging my head off a brick wall repeatedly :o| :o| :o|
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Its snowing like hell out right now and i have a machine that doesn't run right

Thanks in advance for any help

OOO and i forgot to mention, the sled had a fresh tank of super in it, put it in on thursday night. The tank had maybe 2 or 3 liters of fuel in it from about a month ago when i first started it.

DUDE, I KNOW YOU DON,T WANT TO HEAR THIS. HERE IS THE ANSWER. RACE FUEL!!!!!!!! I RUN 100 OCTANE IN MY 2002 SRX. OR STRIP IS 1/2 MILE. MY LITE HAS NOT COME ON IN TWO YEARS. I HAD SAME PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY 02 SRX. BOUGHT BRAND NEW BY THE WAY. GET YOURSELF SOME RACE FUEL, NIX IT 50/50 WITH YOUR PREM. PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. ITS THE ONLY ANSWER. 3:16 (tony)

I understand that running a higher octane and higher quality fuel would definately help the engine and it would completely illiminate that factor from possible causes for the light going off. LOL your right thats not what i wanted to hear. My sleds motor is basically stock except for a set of v-force 3 reeds. I dont understand having to jump up 2 jet sizes from the stock jetting and then still having to run race fuel. I'm not disagreeing with you at all. The fact is i dont know where i'm even able to get race fuel. And that being said how am i supposed to fill up on the trails?? Dont take this the wrong way at all because i completely agree with you. Higher octane fuel would be great to run all the time. All i'm saying is the machine was fine when i first bought it and now the dcs is acting up after some minor modifications to the sled. I have put quite a few km on the machine since i owned it, however it still starts up great and seems to run pretty hard. All 3 plugs are burning the same so i cant see it being an air leak making 1 cylinder detonate.

Yammiman nailed it on the head with the clutching. I had the same problem with my 02. Running race fuel is not the answer. You’re loading the motor at high RPM causing detonation. It’s a simple fix, but you can make it very complicated by fixing what isn’t broken. We call it chasing your tail.

I have never put race fuel in my SRX'S and have never had any problems including my 02' w/ DCS. Both run like champs on 91.

For the amount of riding time I put on my 2002 SRX,the light has come on when pinning it from launch to wot.I have filled the tank with fresh premium fuel. There was a little regular gas in tank from previous owner. The second time I took it out,the DCS never came on,and I was doing at least 20 launch to WOT runs.So better fuel helps.I went and changed my jetting to PTO 150 and 148.8 center and mag just to be safe, besides that jetting was good enough for the 2001 SRX's.As for correct clutch rpm,s,unable to set mine yet until I install my new Tach that is coming in.Have carbs and air box apart to.Waiting for my clutch alignment tool to come in so I can set the clutch specs there right.Besides the temps are really cold here now, this am was -51 C with wind chill.Gonna be like that all week coming. So probably won't get to take the beast out till end of next week or the next weekend.

Okay guys thanks for the replies, I'm currently waiting on a helix and spring and then i'm going to get into the clutching. I'm going to use one of the setups off here and see what happens. Turk had it listed in the technical pages. Would the DCS not be more sensitive though when the rpms do finally climb up that extra 500 rpm?? I dont know how sensitive this system is to anything, I think i might have to go up another size on the mains it is a little to lean for my liking, i'd much rather run a bit rich then lean, i'm going to try and do a run again and take pictures of the spark plugs then i'll post the pics on here, To me though its running a bit on the lean side. How sensitive is the dcs system?? If it was a little lean would it set it off??

Yes i definately agree with you, i'd much rather be frustrated then burning the engine down. I'm not quite sure of the elevation here either but it must be around the same as you are. I did run in between the 01 and 02 jet specs but it didnt make a difference. I then jetted up to the 01 specs and i think its still running a little on the lean side. IMO anyways, i'm going to take the plugs out the next time and take a pic of them and post them on here. I do have the stock can but its gutted, and the airbox also has a few holes drilled in the top plate to allow for more airflow. Due to these mods i think i'm going to try going up another jet size and see if the dcs still comes on. What is the best fuel to run in everyones opinion?? Would it be alright to run a can of octane boost in the tank and then just see if the light still comes on. I think im going to jet up though again just to see if that makes a difference in the plug color. What would the next jet size up be??

Currently running 150 in the pto and 148.8 in the middle and the mag cylinder

I know i need to address the clutching issue but i dont have the parts yet to get that aspect done.

Also if i do run octane boost what kind would be the best to try and where would it be available??

Thanks for your help in advance

I dont know my clutch setup off hand, I put the heelclicker on last year and used the instructions that came with it to add the weight. I dont have the instructions handy (there at home and i'm at school) I do know that the dcs light did come on before i had put the heelclicker kit on. The secondary is completely stock, stock helix, new shoes on the clutch and i think i'm running a 70 degree wrap currently. I have a 50/38 helix on order along with a green spring. I do know the machines not revving out to what it should, its only hitting 8100 and then it will sink back down to 8000

i know when i put the bolts and washers on the weights i followed the instructions to a T and then i put an extra washer on each of the tips just to see if it would make much of a difference. BTW i will be changing both the primary and secondary clutching when i get these parts. I got a new setup from turk off the tech pages

put the stock reeds back in it, it will richen it up some.

Is there any way around going back to the stock reeds?? I dont have them as the dealer installed the v-force on the machine and then the stock reeds mysteriously disappeared. i think one of the #$%&* at the stealership ran off with them. Can i jet around the v-force Mrviper??

I realize that those 2 things are obviously going to affect the system. But it was doing it before the mods were even done to it. Thats what i dont understand, if i had done the can and the airbox and then the dcs started to flash i would completely understand that those two things would be the culprit. Can you not jet around this?? I dont quite understand how the dcs system works?? Does it not take the input from a knock sensor on the side of the block and that determines the output of the system?? If this is how the system functions can you not jet the machine rich and avoid detonation completely therefore not even affecting the dcs?? Or does the dcs take inputs from other sensors on top of the knock sensor??

UNDERSTAND MY POINT. NOBODY TELLING YA TOO USE FULL BLOWN RACE FUEL 110 OCTANE. I AM TELLING YA TO UP YOUR OCTANE. 50/50. YA SEE PROBLEM REALLY DOSE NOT LIE IN ANYTHING YOU ARE DOING. PROBLEM IS QUILITY OF GAS YOUR BUYING. ITS SIMPLEY SUCKS. NOW I DON,T KNOW WHAT YA CAN BY UP THERE, BUT HERE IN NY OUR FUEL HAS 10 % ETHNOL WHICH WILL WATER DOWN YOUR OCTANE TO BASISLY A UNLEAD MID GRADE WHICH IS NOT ENOUGH FOR A SRX. DUDE, I AM TELLING YA. TODAY HERE IN NY, 7 DEGREES ON OUR AIRSTRIP RUNNING 1/2. MY DCS NEVER BLINKED. WIDE OPEN ALL THE WAY WITH 98/100 OCTANE FUEL. !! 3:16 (tony)

Ya our fuel has an ethanol content of more then 10% now i think, they changed it when the new year came in, i dont know exactly what its up to now but i do believe its 10% or higher. What additives could i put into the fuel to boost the octane back up?? Any good brand names that i could look for??

Alright, thanks for your help, I'm going to try and get my hands on some octane booster, I know ALL our fuel in ontario has ethanol in it, the exact percentage im not sure of. If i do decide to jet up another size, what would the next size up be?? I'm running 150, 148.8, and 148.8 right now
