They are very efficient clutches and rock for top end. Only bad thing is that bushings seem to wear out a bit faster than with yamaha clutches.
See this is where it gets scary to buy a P85! I just emailed a guy w/ one on ebay it is from a 04 domestic twin & he said it has the 30mm taper! So is it the older clutches or newer? Same problem I ran ito before!mountain_mod_viper said:It is a p-85 from the 94-98 indy storms (I'm 75% sure on the years). Polaris number 1321740. Storms were a wider belt than the 8DN so his kit comes with the parts to take care of that. I have hartman's p-85 kit on two mtn vipers and like them alot. I run the yamaha 8DN belt with them. Before the p-85's I had 4000-5000 miles on the stock clutches and noticed the little cracks forming. I highly recommend Hartman for the p-85 setup. He worked with me to get it dialed in. He even called me to make sure that I had got the parts for the weekend and wanted to know exactly how the setup was working in case he needed to swap me for different weights, etc.
I'll admit, If I had known exactly what I needed, I could have gotten the setup a little cheaper, but in the end, I was glad I paid the little bit of extra to get Hartman's experience. We need more guys like him in the aftermarket industry.
By the way, I like the p-85 better for the mtn riding that I do. I don't have any experience with the p-85 on a flatlander sled.

Thanks! I would like to have a back up clutch here just incase! Do you have a starting point set up?yamaholic22 said:Dan that clutch will work fine for you. I used one of an '02 XC 700 SP. They really are NOT all that hard to setup by any means.
I had to sell the twin! And my favorite rifle! Son had knee surgery! High deductables! Guy from Georgia bought it & went to Muni last weekend said it was the fastest sled of all the rentalsLOL! Oh and his brothers sled a yamaha XTC! My 700 has a 43/35 advantage helix 40/ 20 gearing ,turk set me up on the weights said stick w/ stock & put in 4.5 inner 3.6 outers Sled hauls A$$ I weigh a wopping 135 so you can imagine it pulls hard! I would like to have a second set up with a whole differerant arrangement!yamaholic22 said:which sled are you running it on and is anything done to it?

OK! That is the ? some had here how to adjust for a Yamaha belt! You are the first to answer That! So take the clutch apart & remove some shims. Now we are getting some where.Thank you1 The p85 seems that they are fairly cheap & there are a lot of them out there too!pro116 said:well you have to tune to your rpm for the desired sled but.The clutches are way more simple than yamaha. All the rollers are the same size. The only thing is you have to get the right spacing for the beldt polaris hads shims in there spider you can remove or add to your desire. Then you have the primary spring and weights. When using a polaris primary you can use a wide spread on the helixes such as a 48-36 and so on.
