TURK/MRVIPER..re: clutching on 2002 SRX

well it's 35 degrees F. outside and the sled is still running fine.I think I am going to have to remove 1 washer from each outer rivet.Launch is decent.8200-8300,but on my last run WOT at 102 mph rpm was about 8100-8200.Need to bump it up a bit.Without the 2 washers in each outer rivet I was around 8800-8900.With 2 washers in each, brought it down to 8200.So if I remove 3 washers, should bump it up near 8500...am hoping.

well when I took my weights out of clutch,to my surprise the washers on the inner rivets were starting to loosen up,actually they were streching outward and ready to fly off.I put them on the wrong end of rivet, not the peened side.Did this because the washer diameter was a little big to put on the rivets on inner and outer on the peened side .They would hit each other. The washers on the outer were still tight. So I drilled out the inner rivets and put 2 smaller diameter stainless steel washers on the side that is peened on the rivet.Ground the outer washers flush with the weight top and bottom and grinded a little on the inside so the inner washers would drop down without hitting.Took them to the gram scale and weighed them equal.Went for a run and now the launch is exactly 8200 and she pulls strong to 8500 WOT now.Bingo,I finally got it.Really feels great from launch.Lifts ski's a little and as she climbs to 8500,ski's are still off the ground. It is a wicked pull and you have to hang on due to the acceleration.Clutches are running nice and warm, not hot at all.Just can't find an area where I can go full boar to see what my top end will be.Getting to 100 to 105 with little effort. So I can imagine 110-115 should be acheivable.Have to get the right plugs for this sled to,the BR9ECS's.

I think the problem you'll have half way through next season when it gets colder again is that you'll over rev considerably. The warmer weather really plays a role in RPM.

On a 0*C day I can pull 8500 off the line then it over-shifts and drops to about 8000.
On a -5 day the rpms stay right at 8500
On a colder day, I have to drop from a green sec spring to a red to keep the rpms in check.

But at least it'll be running good for the rest of this season.

I don't think a person is every truly done when it comes to clutching lol.

well on my SXR600 it is consistant the rpm's.Out of the hole 8200 and 8500 WOT at any temps.Took me a season and a half to get that right.Love the SRX tonight. She launched at 8200 and snaps you back as she accelerates to 8500.Ski's off the snow all the way. This is one wicked sled to say the least.Maybe next year I'll put in the Heelclickers,so it will be easier to adjust.Sick and tired of changing rivets.

when you wrap your secondary to 80 instead of 70,does that again raise your rpm's
Yes!!!!!

IMO you can't properly tune on a warm day, there's next year blue.. :o|

ok

so what do you finally have
what weight in heel
in tip
helix
spring
wrap

I am now at
www
4.5 in heel
5.5 in tip
red at 80
54/42

( weight in tip was added to compensate for this 42 finish over rev)

r's are good at wot on my last run ( 29-30deg day)
but seems more throttle was needed in general in the trails

and i got 10 mpg for that tank when i had done as well as 12mpg before , seems to confirm I was more into the throttle

r's at cruise ( 70 mph ) seemed lower than before adding weight too ( as expected)

I need to line up to someone and try this final setup
then go to
47 stock helix with 4.5gram heel and tip,
these are the two setups i need to finalize

well it was warm today when I tested, about 42 F.,but the sled ran pretty strong otherewise.
MY SETUP AS FOLLOWS:
w-w-w primary
8DN-20 weights
4.5g plus .8g in washers=5.3g approx
4.5g plus .8g in washers=5.3g approx
51/43 Dalton Helix
Green secondary (never tried red spring yet)
Launched at 9200 rpm's
WOT was 8500 rpm,s
My speed today was 105mph(but it was warm out)
Since I jetted up 2 sizes, will change pilots to 40 later
I may invest in Heelclickers next season...we'll see.

I wish it would cool down here a bit so I could do a couple of runs again, but forcasts for mild days ahead.Going red spring may probably get me more top end and less backshift.
