Does this look right?? I just went through my sled tonight, because last time I was out riding on the river I almost got beat on the top end by a vmax 600 xt, that I know is stock. I topped out at 94 mph on the speedo and my buddy made me look silly going by me at 120 with his apex. Now I know that I can not contend with an apex, but a 600 xt scares me. So I looked at my track play about (1 inch) on a (1.25 ripsaw) and I went from my 22-39 tooth gears to 23-39 in order to get back some speed. I know that my track is not rubbing, I took out all the stud protectors. I also just got done getting my suspension to work for my body weight (which is 150 pounds. The other rider was about 220pounds on the xt). I then cleaned my clutches and I have a bender 51-45 helix and weights that came on a sxr, I don't know that rivets are in them but, I know it has a bender red spring in the primary and the secondary has a green spring rapped at 80. I know the clutch is running right ( rpm it jumps right to 8200-8300 and stays right there until I top out at about 8400 rpm). So that brings me to my power valves. I cleaned them making them look like brand new ;):D. And I adjusted them with the help from the old forums here and the service book. Using 2-2.5mm allen wrenches and I found that they could be a little out of adjustment but I am not quite sure because I can't take it out to test until Saturday. I could feel them open up before, when I reached about 7000-7300 rpm. Can anybody think of any thing that is holding me back? I kinda think that it is my helix, but i don't want to have to re-clutch a sled that has a clutch that was bought for it. I have not checked my compression but i just rebuilt the motor with all new pistons and rings last year and it only has about 1800 miles on it. And it runs the same now as it did the first day I rebuilt it. Maybe thats all my little 600 has. I know by putting my gear back to a 23-39, I will be able to run about 100. I am kinda disappointed :dunno: If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear some suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!

P.s.- My heads look like this after the person that I bought the sled from decided it would be a good idea to use rtv gasket maker instead of the head gaskets so it burned down in the first 20 miles after I bought it. So much for my first sled huh. It drained the antifreeze out and the temp light never came on!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure your 1.25 track is holding you back some, whats your buddy
got on his?

thats funny what the other guy did to your head, some people
should just not own anything...

My buddy has just a stock track. I didnt find it all that amusing then but I am over it now!!!!
Yea somthing isn't right, you should be waxing his ars...

That could be I don't know much about clutching other then what it is suppose to be at when riding. I also don't know if that helix being 51-45 is not to steep? It is great for the trails and the sled is snappy but I think that it is a little steep comepaired to what I have read for clutch setups.

back off the secondary spring 10 degrees at a time, it will definitely pick up topend then. The trick is trying it at differnt settings and not sucking the belt on take off, you will know when you go too far, it will have a great big bog when you hit the gas.

Thanks MR.Viper your help is always greatly appreciated!!!!! What do you think of my bender helix is it to steep? I know that I have never seen anyone suggest one that has a 51/45 angle.

That helix should work decent but you will probably do a bit better on top end with something more along the lines of a 43 or 42 finish angle.

just a question about the power valves,,

is that how it shold look when you adjust them? with that much of a space between the two housings??? and how do the bolts stay tight? I would think they would just vibrate out and that would be bad

I dont know much about them other then I have to learn and clean and adj. soon

again just a question

You do tighten them up you don't leave it open like that, try a search
on power valves tons of info...post back with any Q's

Well guys like my other post says, I had the centerone pull through. I am not sure why but it did. So I think that I am going to use the yamaha method along with the pipe method. This is the only way that I can be sure that they will not pull through!!!

I tried the wrap on the secondary but my valve was pulled through so I can not tell ya if it helped my top speed. But I can tell you that my sled does not like the powder (Bogggggggggggggggg) and that it does not bog when I hit the gas because of secondary wrap is less. I just had snow hitting my pipes.
