Cases are cases. Studs are studs that can be changed. I heard that wisco and aaen where making dual ring 18 mm pin pistons. At the other end of the dyno test they would loosing power because of the lost of compression. Did anyone here more about this???? Dean-o
the 1980 srx also used double ring piston design p/n 8g9-11631-00-93 in engine ser #range 008101-008770 and 011071-011670.

the stock 1980 srx used a single ring piston. 8g9 was a 1978 piston
Srx440d Used Three Different Pistons 8g9-11631-01-00,single Ring Design In Engine #range009531 To 011070 Then Piston# 8g9-11631-00-93 Which Was The Double Ring Design In Engine Sequence#s 008101 Thru-008770 & 011071 Thru-011670 Then Used The 8j0-11631-00-93 Single Ring Piston In The Ser # Engines Of 008771 Thru 009539 And 011671 And Beyond Engines. Why? I Dont Know
They should of all been dual ring. Like rotax. I wish yamaha made them with reeds and triple port......

I KNOW YOU EXPERTS KNOW THIS. YOU KNOW THERE WERE TWO VERSIONS OF THE 1978 SRX. ONES SOLD IN US AND CANADA WERE SRX440B. THEIR WAS ANOTHER VERSION SOLD IN EUROPE. SRX440. THERE WAS A PICTURE ON ONE OF THE YAMAHA BOARDS OF THIS SLED. I THINK IT WAS IN SWEDAN. IT BASISLY WAS A 78 SRX, WITH HOOK HANDLE BARS, 77 SRX DECALS, 77 SRX MOTOR, !! I SAID NO WAY WHEN I FIRST SAW IT. BUT THEIR IS A MODEL CODE FOR IT. 8H1. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Oh S^&T. I want the F&^&*n thing....78 with 77 motor and bars. What tank and seat? Alun bulk head too???? Tony where's the picture? Your the man...Your the Yamaha man..... Dean-o
i know some srx info but i would never claim to be an expert on anything, that would mean i had a closed mind.i would surely love to see that sled!now i have a question, i have a 80 crank and i just bought a new crank in the box for a 78 the labrynth seals look different does this mean i have to use a 78 crankcase? also were the ssr piston skirts the same length as the stock78 pistons or will this change my port timing a little to make more hp?because now i have all brand new oem parts to build a engine and these are the only pistons i have. and do i have to use any special ring or is the 8g9 ring ok to use?

I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS OPINIONS ARE LIKE ASSHOLES. EVERYONE HAS ONE!!! I CAN THROW A MONKEY WRENCH INTO THIS I BOUGHT A 78 SRX FROM A FAMILY MEMEBER WHO BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. MATTER OF FACT, I REMEBER FAMILY GATHERING AND I WOULD BEG MY COUSIN TOO SELL ME THAT SLED. WELL FINALLY HE DID. THAT 78 SRX HAD KNOW DUAL RING PISTON AND HAD SMALL STUDS. WHATEVER!!!!!!!
DEAN, I THINK THAT SRX WAS ON vmax4.com ALONG TIME AGO. THIS SLED WAS BASISLY A MIX MATCHED 77 1/2. THE MOTOR WAS 8F2. ALL THE WAY TOO CARBS AND PIPES. THE CHASSIS WAS 78. DECALS ON HOOD WERE 77. NO BLACK AT ALL. HANDLE BAR WAS HOOKED. SEAT HAS LEAN PAD. ALUMINUM SKI,S, COUNSEL WAS 78, SO MY GUESS IT HAD BIG GAS TANK, SKID FRAME WAS 78. SHORT BUMPER IN FRONT. I DON,T BELIEVE IT CAME WITH WINDSHIELD. I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES, UNTIL GUY POSTED CHASSIS NUMBER. 8H1. I FINALLY FOUND THAT PREFIX IN SOME OF MY OLD YAMAHA PREFIX INFO UNDER SRX440. KEEP IN MIND, NOT SRX440B. WHICH WAS 8G9. VERY VERY RARE SLED. MAYBE AS RARE AS A 82. 3:16 (yammie tony)

ARE YOU BUILDING A RACE MOTOR HERE. MY GUESS IS 78 SRX PISTON SKIRTS CUT TOO SSR SPEC WOULD BE GREAT FOR RACING. BUT OTHER WISE WHATS THE POINT. 3:16 (yammie tony)
just something for lake ,trail and maybe a radar run ocasionally. like i said the labrynth dont look the same. just got me wondering, dont want to put this engine together and build a expensive grenade
I Bought A Bunch Of Parts In The Last Couple Of Months, Enough To Build A Complete Engine. New Cylinders, New Crank ,8g9 Could Not Locate 8g9 Pistons So I Bought 8h0 Pistons But All I Have For A Case Is A 80 Case This Is All New Oem Stuff And You Know How Hard This Stuff Is To Get. So I Just Dont Want To Ruin These Parts

i have an 82 9500 blizzard and a 83 9700 blizzard. the stock Elko pistons are single L ring pistons, not dual. the Rotax Elko pistons are by far the beefiest/toughest pistons i have seen.

what changes are made to put a 79 crank in a 77 motor ? what is the stock port timing specs for the 8f2 cylinders ? I have a 77 that won't run right ! I don.t know if it's been ported more than stock ? how far can you go ?where do you measure from / to ign. timing specs ? this ting runs like crap & it should haul ***. I don't know what the previous owner did but its all new ! pistons ,rings nikasil ,crank , all proper 77 ign. parts but no power jets. just 360 mains he had 480 in it y6 tubes &7f6 needles .It spits back fuel at low rpm .the closest to running half good was to move the stator all the way clock wise then it smoked the belt at engagment[ 6000 rpm ] drove out 100 ft then came to life 10,000 rpm max for 6 or 7 hundred ft any suggestions other than sell it.I want to run right before i restore it thanks Andre

I Have The Pics Of The 78 8h1. I Have Seen Two Sleds. They Are Identical To A 77 Srx, But Hood Is Identical To A 78 Srx. No Windshield Though. Jeff Wurl

Andre,
I have almost the same problem with my 77 grass sled. I changed the fuel pumps and shortened the vacume paulse lines. I'm going to try changing the CDI box to Hewtechs next. I think I spelled that right. www.cdibox.com Timing should be around 2.0. I run 520's in my main jets. You didn't happen to cap off any vents on the carbs? That will make it run like S^&*t.. Dean-o
