SRX 1108 Race Sled Buildup

got to meet dave marshall at his shop today, he said he met you there!, can't wait to see your sleds in person! when are you coming to qc!!!

Well, I just came home from testing. The sled is alive!....but scary. I am having suspension issues. The front end will not stay on the ground. If I roll out to about 60mph, then get on the throttle, the sled just wants to stand up on the rear wheels. Dropping 170 lbs and running a carpet track setup is unbelieveable. I just got off the phone with John at Proline, and he has given me some guidance, so I'm heading out to the garage again to do some tweaking. Today was a very good day.

If that thing rips 1/2 as good as it looks, you must be loving it!!

Get that puppy dialed in sos I can watch her tear up the track in North Bay!

I wanna see wheelies too! LOL

Hopefully it won't be pulling wheelies by then. It pulls a hell of alot harder than last year. It should produce some good numbers.

The track is good. Depending on weather, I might be able to make it out tomorrow afternoon. I'm working nights, so i'll call you when i get up.

I just got back from testing with the 1136. The track is not great, but it's ok for testing. The chassis now transfers properly, and stays planted in the front. It's ready for a complete pass now. I only ran it 600-700 feet, and it climbed to 133.8 mph. Races are this upcoming weekend, so i'll do a full pass then :)

might see you there. buddy finally got his ready to try the gun. going for the demo ride on sunday anyways.

This thread has had a few views :)........up to nearly 25,000 now.
25,000? I'm not surprised...I just found this site and signed up about a week and a half ago, so tonight I just finished reading this thread right from day one, going through the build up of two racing sleds over the last two years.
Between your play-by-play Valin and everyone elses input, it was more interesting than any car, truck, anything build up I can remember reading in any magazine. So thanks for doing this and good luck, I'll definately be watching for the times you put up with this monster!!!

Today, we had terrible conditions........horrible. It was way above zero today, and damn mushy. I did a roll-on pass for 1000', and was running 139. I then decided to run 1320, with a slight roll-on, and ran 141. 1500'....142.7 mph. The sled is falling off on rpm HUGE. It pulls like a bear to 135, then I start to lose rpm. I changed a bit of clutching, which should have atleast held rpm, and ran into the same issue. I tried a few other things....same issue. Just as I was leaving for the night, I pulled off the secondary and noticed the clutch was opening up right into a bolt that is slighly protruding in the bulkhead that I had installed to hold one of my upper torque arms. The screws that hold the windage plate on are all flat, and the bolt for the torque arm is worn quite a bit. Basically, I believe it was shifting out into that bolt, and stopping the shift with some major friction, and the primary was still trying to shift, resulting in a steady fall of rpm. I'm surprised I wasn't breaking belts. I'll be doing some adjusting tomorrow, and hopefully that's all it is that is restricting me.

Also, the trail sled was down 6 mph due to conditions in the morning, and down 9 mph in the afternoon from the previous weekend. The weather is getting cold tonight (-10 celcius), and we have a high of -5 celcius tomorrow, so the track will be good and hard. Hopefully we get some decent speeds.

Quick update:

Trail sled: 128.7 mph in 2000' - new NBSSR 800 Improved trail record.
Race sled: ran 140.7 in 1000', then falls off on rpm. It's aggrivating me. I have a few ideas and I'll go through it and get out for testing Thursday.
