DCS light flashing !!! "HELP"

87 octane fuel is not a good thing to be running in that motor... I never had a problem with my DCS either until about 5500 km were on the machine, give or take a few hundred km. With that said, i could not figure out what was setting it off, I made no changes to the engine or anything... So i jetted up a few sizes and now I havn't had a problem. I still have no clue why some machines have this issue and machines like yours dont. lol baffles me

Tony, i will let you know if i part the motor out. Slayer, is it possible that the sensor goes bad after a while, i mean these machines are 6 years old now and most are up in the mileage too. Otis, betcha that light would have burned your eyes out if you ran WOT for a while on that 87 octane.

dcs

It sort of baffles me as well why I dont have issues and others do. I have exactly 4000 miles on her and I have held her wide open in various temps on the railbeds up in caribou,me and the sled has been flawless (knock on wood).

I have also been forced to use a lot of this 10% ethanol fuel lately so I have been expecting the light to perhaps come on. Last weekend, when I had to use 87 two days in a row (Portage Maine), the temps were in the 40's so that may have given me a cushion.

Lastly, I do religously use isoproply-alcohol in cold temps.

Maybe your water rail bolt is too tight, making the vibrations to plant more firmly.

could a couple of loose rattling rivets in the body cause the dcs to light up, i mean it does pick up any detonation and tapping right. i am just looking for solutions.
COM,ON GUY !!!!!!!!!! 3:16 (yammie tony)

I wouldn't go looking for loose rivets.... Jet up, check your plugs until you get a nice color on them and then I can almost guarantee you that your dcs light will not be set off... That is if your powervalves are cleaned and functioning properly and your fuel is good. Bad fuel will definately set it off. Try the jets and then go from there.

Hookedonblue, do you have msn or yahoo messenger? Maybe we can talk there?

clean and set the carbs, get new exhaust springs and see what you get. if nothing else changed, you may have bad fuel. Keep it simple - get yourself to some sort of a benchmark first - rule out dirty carbs, exhaust leaks and poor gas quality - then start looking at the other things. somethings causing it to ping and you have to figure that out.

You guys are grasping for short straws here.... loose rivets .....no way!! The DCS light works off of sound waves in the coolant system, the head and rail is the only place it will pick this up and it has a certain frequency in which it works at.

you simply are not using the correct octane fuel or your jetted too lean, those are the reasons for the light going off.

run 2001 jetting specs and run some 94 pump gas with a gallon or 2 of race gas mixed in and the light wont come on anymore.

I build 02 srx with big bore 780 engines with good above average compression and I dont have problems with DCS on them, you can try to outhink this stuff all you want but its octane and fuel mixture, thats all.

i agree don redid my bigbore all you need is the right jetting and a splash of race fuel and youll never see the dcs light

Not all riders can get race fuel!
Sure with race fuel one can run all day long without it going off. The trick is to make it keep shut with premium fuel. The best fuel I can get (I live in norway) is 98 octane research. 97 research is like your 91

So so true, the best i got around is 93...there ain't race fuel around for
a 100 miles..LOL

then jet it up!! you guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill, your octane is simply too low, 91 is too low for the stock 02 jetting, you cant get any race fuel....fine, so your only other choice is simply jet the sled richer.....problem solved. Use 42.5 pilot jets, run the needles in 3rd groove with both shims under clip and run 148.8,148.8 , 150 mains.
