ya your break down there is very accurate, but the 1 for me that sewed it up was that if I go to a backyard race and win, I have no feeling of accomplishment at all. it's like "so my race-prepped sled beat a bunch of sleds that are set-up for the trail, big deal." so it's a lot of work and no satisfaction at the end of the day. And if I where ever to lose, it'd be absolutely humiliating. To me it's all about the challenge of seeing how far I can push myself and my equipment (which is myself by proxy since most of it is stuff that I designed and built) and seeing where I stack up against the best. But that's just me, alot of people are happy just to jump on a sled and run down the track. And alot of people aren't in it for the competition, they're in it to win. I can honestly say that I don't even mind losing, so long as I feel that I did the best that I could, and was just out-performed. If I did everything in my power and ran as fast as I could in the conditions, and learned something, I'm happy, no matter where I placed. That level of competition just wasn't ever present at backyard stuff tho.
Not to mention that in my experience, backyard races will ALWAYS be won by locals, if you travel more than an hour to get to the backyard race, you have 0 chance of winning, as even if you do, they'll tear you down and find something wrong (there or not) to disqualify you, 'cause they want to see a local guy winning. Not to mention being into $50 for gaskets and 2 hours of tear down and 3 of reassembly when you get home, all 'cause they don't like being beaten by somebody that's not on the same postal route as them.
I'm not trying to say noone should run backyard drags tho, you gotta do what makes you happy, but these are the reasons that I wasn't ever happy doing it.

DID I UNDERSTAND YOUR POST RIGHT. TEAR DOWN AT A OUTLAW EVENT ? DOSE THAT MAKE SENSE. FOR WHAT. ITS RUN WHAT YA BRUNG. LOOK I CAN,T ARGUE WHAT YOUR SAYING, BUT WHAT I HAVE SEEN THE BACKYARD EVENTS HAVE DESTROYED PRO SANTION STUFF HERE. GVE YA A EXAMPLE I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN A SANTIONED EVENT GUY WHO RAN A CIRCUIT ACTUALLY HOLD A ALL OUTLAW EVENT ON HIS PROPERTY BECAUSE OF HOW BIG THE TURNOUT IS AT THE OUTLAW EVENT I MENTIONED ABOVE. IF YA CAN,T BEAT THEM, I GUESS YOU JOIN THEM !!! !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

yea forsure I got torn down at an outlaw event first they thought I was running non-stock clutch weights, then they tore me down to the cases to see if I was running stock connecting rods. Which is total BS, but when they just make up the rules on the spot, they'll find a way, eventually I just told them to shove it and keep their $17 dust collector, if they wanted to give it to somebody on their block for losing (and we all knew it) that's fine.

I agree, but i'm young and still in college, but still love to race and get my hands into a sled. Money is an issue with people my age and sometimes older people also so therefor the only thing they can get thier hands on is backyard stuff. As mentioned it takes alot of money to race pro. Yes i'd love to try it if i had money to pay for all expenses and plenty of time. Right now i just run races anywhere from 1-4 hours away. I was going to try the track in NH to see what that was like, i believe that's pro.

to me, the majority of the money goes into the travelling costs, hotel over a weekend, fuel to drive to the place, etc. add's up ALOT faster than $100 in entry fees to run a bunch of classes.

THIS IS ALMOST FUNNY. THOUGHT IT WAS ALL OUTLAW. WELL ANYWAYS I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT. 3:16 (yammie tony)Junior said:yea forsure I got torn down at an outlaw event first they thought I was running non-stock clutch weights, then they tore me down to the cases to see if I was running stock connecting rods. yea in retrospect it's kinda funny, but irritating also. Sucks that I had to replace a buncha gaskets 'cause some guy didn't wanna give me a trophy.

Where I am from there isn't much backyard stuff at all. But I must say that the amatuer division on my circuit seem to be pretty good, there always seems to be a good turnout for them..
Eric Michael if you are interested in coming to NH for a race check out the NH forum on Hardcoresledder, my wife posted the schedule on there the other day. If you do come up for a race look for the pro stock 1000 SRX and a improver SRX #90 and stop by and say hi.

Just so everyone knows, the amatures are part of every weekend of racing. Except Freemont they are running them Friday night of course and last year for the 1st time they ran them on Saturday too. But they do include the amatures in every weekend. You can also sign up as a member of NEGDS and run for points against other amatures.
