OK, so what happened the second time the Poo went down? also oil isn't going to make your quad faster than mine. We're running identical mods, the reason yours is faster is because you have about 3 hrs on a fresh rebuild whereas my piston to cylinder clearence is out of spec and my compression is lower than it should be, not making excuses it's a fact, i'll let you measure for yourself when I tear it down this spring. Also if the yamalube is coating my power valves so much it would be fair to say its doing the same to my crank bearings and such. Your ams doesn't like to stick to the power valves as much so I would assume it does the same to your crank bearings and other moving parts. What the difference in burn off temps between ams and yammy is I don't know, but that could also factor in as well. As for the valves pulling out, the cables are steel and the valves aluminum, moving back and forth hundreds of times in just a single days ride. either way you dice it all the movement is eventually going to eat away at the aluminum. And god forbid we dont make the valves out of steel and add a pound and a half of weight. when ever the valves get pulled out each year for cleaning its not like you have to wrestle them out for hours on end, they just slip right out. Just what I believe.

Those of you with 10,000 miles on an engine without ever taking it apart should post pics and measurements of your pistons, whenever you do take them apart (or they come apart on their own).
While this may seem trivial to some, it will mean a lot to others.

enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
all right guys enough is enough, everyone knows yamalube does a great job so why argue over other oils when the fact is your engine is not going to blow unless you disregard annual checkups and maintenance no matter what oil you are using!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wtf drop it, lifes to short

I would be really interested in seeing the pics of the high mile motors. I was amazed at what my motor looked like when I opened it up. It was nothing near what I expected. I seriously thought the insides of the cylinders were meant to be a different color than silver. The brown on them was that consistent. With them being a bit blacker toward the tops. I now realize that I had some issues.
But, My compression check and leak down checks were both within the limits that others posted (125 on all and 5%). I honed cylinders and put rings in the motor as I was convinced it was good preventative maintenance at a low enough cost to make it almost a no brainer.
What I don't get is the whole "why" my motor looked the way it did. Many posted they felt it was the yamalube I had used since new. The motor had 4500 on it ( I posted 5000 before but looked at it yesterday) when I pulled it apart.
I have a hard time believing that the yamalube caused my motor to look like it did. I really think there has to be more to it. Why would my motor look like that while others motors look pretty clean after the same amount of miles and also running yamalube.
I understand the rational now for full synthetic oils. As soon as the yamalube in my tank is used up I will probably make the switch to amsoil because it is readily available to me. For the amount of riding I do in a season the few extra dollars for a couple gallons of oil isn't that big of an expense.

Fowler seems to be good oil - anyone use it?
Vegatable oil, at least it will smell like dinner!!

Ding, I didn't get pictures of my engine when it was apart. 9500 miles and the lower portion of all 3 pistons mic'ed between .005-.008 under stock. Cylinder walls were measured at 3 height's and 3 radials. Less than .0005 wear at ANY point. I believe that I ran that engine hard enough that it couldn't have any carbon deposits or or oil sludge in it. It went back together with stock sized ppiston's and ring's. Broke it in with Yamalube, 1 tank of oil, and switched back to Amsoil. In fact, my son was drag racing it the first trip on the fresh rebuild. That was when we all went to Gwinn and you guy's talked me in to running Nospro's 05 rx1. Done ramblin' here LOL.

Sorry if I got annoying to the rest of you guys, but I just love rattling Josh's cage when it comes to ams oil, I don't even know why. Anyway when I had my SRX 600 apart with about 8500 miles it still had the factory crosshatches on the cylinders except for a really small area around the ports, if that counts for anything, didn't measure anything though, didn't think of it at the time, running yamalube (If you couldn't tell from before)

I just would like to see pics and measurements of pistons that come out of high mileage engines. I have personally seen many of these in the past (pre-2000), but didn't take pics (wasn't so easy back then) or keep any of the measurements. I don't do much rebuilding anymore, so I am hoping to see what others who do are finding with these newer engines.
One point I can make is that Nicasil cylinders shouldn't wear hardly at all, whereas rings, and then pistons should wear a bit on the other hand.
If this is a problem for some, I have no problem dropping it . . .

gary who produces spectro, a buddy has a shop just down the road and i can get it easily where amsoil is hard for me to get(must order) the spectro is a semi syn i think. for the past few years i have been running yami because the other stuff was hard to get and i did'nt trust spectro because i have never heard of it before.

Golden spectro is suppose to be pretty good oil for motorcycle oil (4-stroke). I'm not sure as well, as to how good the oil is for a 2-stroke application.

Get a thread like this every year......
as long as it's a FULLY syn. base oil you can't go wrong!!
anyway.....yea what he said^^YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:100% AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR. PEROID. !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

On a bit of a side note, my g/f's dad had purchased an EX440 back in 1978 and since the day he bought it he's run nothing but Dextron II ATF in it instead of a snowmobile oil and swears it's never been apart dispite having a little over 32,000km's on the odometor. This spring he dropped it off at the shop [I'm co-owner of an engine rebuilding business] so I could go over it. When I pulled the cylinders off, it did have a lot of wear [can't remember the specs but I had to go 2nd over size as first over wouldn't clean up the lower cylinder wear] but I was suprised that it wasn't as bad as I would have thought.

I would not do that!!!!
Nope, me either!! I used to give him hell about all the time but he just kept using it!daman said:I would not do that!!!!
