Boring your stock can is no where near as loud as a can. I had a bender and both mbrp cans. The stock one bored was hardly louder than stock. the Bender and mbrp race cans were deafening, and the mbrp trail was just obnoius. JMO Maxdlx

I did it to mine and I could instantly tell that it made a difference. Not huge but it did make a difference and I'd do it again. I have since put pipes on mine though so if anyone wants to buy it let me know... :brr

hats the only way to do it. FM cut the top off of his 600 and gutted it, and man he could drown out my pi end dumps with that thing. Maxdlx

I put the hole in my wifes sxr but now it sounds better than my srx!!!! I'd do it again but only if it were my sled.....aftermarket pipes are illegal in Wi and they ticket all the time up north...they actually set road/trail blocks!!!! No one can tell the when the oem has been played with and it's not too loud.

I did mine, haven't had it out for a major ride yet but it already sounds alot better. A good mod for those of us who have to worry about noise level.

^^^^ nope
But I always run a wash test my first ride out anyway I would recomend you do the same.

No need to jet, it isn't that much of n airflow difference. Mainly a noise level raise. If you want noise cut of the little bend tube on top, that is the noise resinator it will get loud. Maxdlx

I did the 2" hole drilling thing 4 years ago along with the reed notch and head gasket mods all at the same time on '99 600 triple Vmax deluxe (red head). Definite difference. I'd say sound is not "barely" louder, rather noticibly louder, but myself nor the cops ever had an issue with it. It also seems to have a cool sounding lope at idle on it, like a car with a cam. starts, idles and runs crisper, and takes the gas much quicker w/o any jetting changes. I had it out at -16 last year w/o issues (agree with prev post that it really doesn't affect jetting much if at all. mine was too fat stock anyway). I did foul 1 plug with this machine, and it was after many nights running it in the garage and praying for snow. It was also after the mods and with last year's plugs in it. I've used 87 octane most of the time with no issues (still low compression IMO). You should do it and somewhere on this site is an audio clip of the sound. It is 100% the same as mine. Just do it, and if you don't like it, get another for $10 on ebay. good luck.

i know this is a pretty late reply but, maxdlx, what do you mean by little bend tube on top and much do you cut of it, pics would b great
