I ride with some friends that have F6 and F7's. The Firecat's dont corner very well at all. They push like a mother. But if the trail is rough, the faster you go the better they ride.
If you want an all around AC ride then you should consider the ZR. Also keep in mind that 03 was the first year for the F7. If you were to consider a F7 I would look for an 04 or an early 05 with out the diamond drive. Make sure that all of the updates have been completed on any Firecat you would consider. There are a bunch of updates.

Ya I guess the track is not as wide on the F7's as the ZR 9's which make them Tippy. From research it looks like all year F7's needed updates. DD drive killed the 05's. But if you change the secondary to a 10.4 I think it helps out.
It just still confuses me the ZR 900 is 200 CC larger and about 45 pounds more and it is equal in speed to the F7. I guess it has to be the 45 pounds difference.

The Firecat track is also 128" long. I think most of the handling issues on a Firecat are due to the chassis being a flexible flyer. And I would say that the weight and that the F7 motor is a strong one is the difference between the ZR.

COOL POST BY ALL, RACED MANY ZR 900 WITH BOTH MY SRX,s AND MOST ARE STRONG. I WOULD TAKE ONE OVER THE F-7. UP ABOVE SOMEBODY POSTED THE 2003 F-7 WAS THE FASTEST, MIGHT BE BUT THE 2006 F7 HAS THE MOST HP. THE 2006 F-7 COMES WITH THE HOT ECU BOX THAT ALL THE OTHER CAT OWNERS SEND THEIRS IN FOR. TELL YOU GUYS ONE THING THESE NEW CATS ARE SLOW. A SRX WILL CRUSH THEM. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Well I just got back from a little rip with my brothers 06 zr900 and my newly clutched srx (turks setup) We got about six inches of fresh light snow on top of are three inches of super hard crunch snow. So it went like this, he pretty much got the hole shot on me about a sled and would hold it the whole time up to about a 100 then we would have to let off, right about the time were it seemed I was starting to creep on him. My sled was dead nuts running 8,400 and it seemed a lot faster then last years Hauck setup that I had in there. There is something about that zr900 that I really like and Im not an arctic cat guy at all but that zr 900 is fun to ride.

Thanks for the follow up results. Boy is it dam hard to find a clean sled someone has taken care of.
Has your brother done the 10.4 secondary to his or is it all stock? If has not done the 10.4 secondary that will bring it out of the hole even faster and add some top speed I think. Roost ER can explain this better. But I guess the 04-06 ZR 900's had the Diamond Drive that slowed them down. Changing the secondary out takes this away and wakes the sled up more.

I may be wrong but I think they changed the clutch in 05 to the 10.4 so he should not have to make the switch. I may be wrong but I thougt AC took care of the clutching problem.

From what I have been reading up on the 10.4 is a must for ZR 900 04-06. I am not an expert but from what I have been reading they do not have the 10.4 in years 04-06 and changing that out makes all the difference. He probally should do this if he wants even more out of the sled.
Somone correct me if I am wrong

In 2006 they did change it over to the 10.4 to the best of my knowledge

I am waiting on the guy to send pics. He lives right down the rode but the sled is in CT at a friends. Just came accross a 2004 ZR 900 also with 1,300 miles. He said it has a heavy hitter clutch, SLP can. He is asking $,500 for this. I guess the 10.4 was not done and he said it does not need to be done if it is clutched. I told him I think even if it is clutched the 10.4 will still really help out.
The only concern I have on the SRX is that it has sat for 2 years. I just wonder how all the gaskets and stuff are. That could get costly replacing all those. But if it was kept in a heated storage maybe they are alright.
Thanks

Are you really sure you want to go green???? My good friend has an 04 F6 that he bought new and has put about 3,200 trouble free miles miles on it in three seasons. His first trip of the season this week he felt a real subtle vibration in the foot wells. The next thing he knows when coming out of corner and getting on the gas, the jack shaft breaks clean off at the bearing and destroys both the primary and secondary clutches!!!!!! G.B.

Jackshaft not drive shaft??
wow very very rare occurance how many jackshafts have you heard snap thats freak accident, I really dont get this however, so basically the bearing went given, well when he was feeling the vibration its warping, from there the bearing started seizing, at that point hes GOING to notice a loss in power and acceration, he had to of, continuing from there he went to a full seize im assuming which again is very rare and thus took out the shaft, takes alot of torque to sheer that shaft... i dont understand why he didnt stop once he felt the vibration??
Thats something i think cat would cover...cat is usually pretty good standing behind there product...
sorry for his luck, and there aint nothing wrong with green ahha i came from green to the blue side, and honestly both are GREAT sleds.

I ride with about 20 different cats my freinds own , various years and models . Me and one other guy in the regular group own Yammis ( he's sporting a 4-stoke though ). They all have their own strong points . The cats seem to have it all over the Yamahas when it comes to riding in powder ( im talking anything over 18" of loose fluff ). They just seem to rise to the top and really accell . My Viper drags *** in it like im towing a snowplow . But when it comes to handling on a nice trail forget about it . The cats dont even come close .
Im not slamming their sleds by any means here . Id love to have their off the line traction and EFI , but wouldnt trade the almost endless torque curve my tripple has and sexy good looks to boot. When it comes to reliability , I am bias since I see alot more cat issues only because there are more of them than me . It seems to me they do spend alot more time and $ in maintenence just keeping things working than I do . Ive spent alot more $ in upgrading , pipes , clutching and *bling* than I have in maintenence by far ." IMOP "The yammis just seem to take the beating better .![Letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/letitsnow.gif)

I rode a 05 900 efi sno pro and loved it! Power is not as smooth as the srx but it rides and handles much better. The same 900 blew his diamond drive at 3500 miles.
