YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:TOM, THERE IS NOTING DEAD ON ACCURATE MORE THAN A GPS. ITS REALLY THE ONLY WAY TO MEASURE 100 % ACCURATE SPEED. I HAVE SEEN THESE USED ON SNOWMOBILES THAT ARE RUNNING THE 1/4 MILE ON TAR AND THEIR MORE PRESISE THAN THE TRACKS TIMERS. RADER GUNS ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE. RADER GUNS HAVE TO BE RECALIBRATED AFTER YOU BUMP THEM AGAINST THE CASE YOU CARRY THEM IN. THAT COMMENT IS TOTALLY WRONG. 3:16 (yammie tony)
LET ME ASK YOU THIS..HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW THAT THEY ARE MORE PRECISE THAN THE TRACKS TIMERS????? WHAT ARE YOU MEASURING THE GPS AGAINST TO MAKE THAT ASSUMPTION??That comment is absolutely ridiculous. I'm done with this post, you have a gearing calculator link that I posted make your own assumptions. And Tony my srx is and will be a 700 and you dont scare me but I will say this if we race my srx 700 against your vmax4 800 and you beat me, well you should beat me BUT if I beat you with my little 700 LOOK OUT!! Sound Familiar???LOL! Tomseal6 I'm glad Tony learned you something new today, good luck with the stock gearing hope you prove me wrong..
I really dont have anything to prove to anybody but I am gonna carry a 37 tooth with me in case I need it. This thread started off with me just wondering if I can hit 119 MPH on my SRX
Last year I got my arse spanked by an ATTAK. Mrviper helped me with my new set-up cause it was completely way off last year (pro116 can verify that) and I want it to run better this year. Im not afraid to admit I lose or my sled was slow. Heck the guy I lost to even let me ride his sled and I really like it so what did I do??? I bought me a new 4 stroke.

Jminor and Yamigod calm down.If you you would like to discuss your battle farther please do it through pm's.
I will let you in on my expeierence once again this is not to arguing. On aspahlt with a bone stock 2001 srx. This is with stock clutching, stock, jetting,no air box.The fastest it ran was (bad 60 ft times no suspension tuning) 1.58 10.68@117 with 22-38 gearing it would run out of gear just before the 1/4 mile mark and over rev to 8900-9000rpms but if you gear it up to 23-38 it would run just slightly slower et's and mph.Yes if there was another 25 ft it would have run higher mph.

( a rader gun more accurate than a gps LOL!!!!! TOM, MR SRX IS THE MAN, EVERYBODY ELSE IS WRONG!! I BET HIS SRX WILL GO 120. GLAD I DON,T SCARE YA JOSH, BUT I,LL TELL YA THIS WE HAVE BEAT,IN ALOT FASTER GUYS THAN YOU !!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO YA. lol 3:16 ( yammie tony)
what I was asking is how do you gauge the accuracy of your gps, because it read differently than the time slips??!!!!!! Give me a break. Pro116 the times and numbers you are stating are on asphalt, different animal. I wont post on this thread again, sorry for the disruption. OH YEAH AND TONY I HAVE NEVER BEATEN A LEGEND BEFORE LIKE YOURSELF, THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE HAD THE CHANCE AT CANADAIGUA BUT OH WELL..... All the best to you and Mark this holidays, Josh.

COMPARE THE TIME YOUR TIME SLIP RECORED VS THE GPS MAX SPEED READING. 100 % EXACT. MORE TIMES THAN NOT YOUR MPH READING WILL BE HIGHER THAN THE TRACKS TIMERS BY AFEW MPH. A GPS IS SO ACCURATE IT WILL MEASURE WALKING STEPS BY A HUMAN. SET A GPS ON YOUR DASH BOARD OF A YOUR CAR AND COMPARE IT TO YOUR SPEED-O. TO SAY A HAND HELD RADER GUN IS MORE ACCURATE THAN A GPS MIGHT BE THE DUMBEST STATEMENT YOUR EVER POSTED. AND WE KNOW YOU HAVE POSTED SOME GREATS !! lol.
NOW FOR CANADAIGIA!! WE TOLD YOU FOR 6 MONTHS , WE WERE NOT GONNA BEAT A 800 INPROVER WITH A STOCK VMAX 4. WHAT DON,T YOU GET. AND YOU BET YOUR *** I AM LEGEND. I WAS RACING WHEN YOU WERE SCREAMING TO GET YOUR DIAPER CHANGED. GO BARK UP SOMEBODYS ELSE TREE JOSH. !! I AM NOT GONNA SPEND ALL WINTER ARGEING WITH YOU. TELL YA WHAT, LETS RACE NOW !!!!!!!!! COME DOWN, WILL RACE YOU ON JACOBEYS TRACK 3:16 (yammie tony)

no what you said to me was "all we want to do is race you and you better be on your game, if you beat us you should, if we beat you look out!!" I gave you your chance and now you have changed your tune. Tomseal please be sure to post your results up for us when you get that thing on gps, I am sure Mr.Vipers work is second to none.
I will but it will be a few weeks unless mrsled lets me post on his laptop at Muni maybe. We will see

LOL yas gotta put in on video too
GPS is going to be a lot more accurate then the average radar. Radar guns are supposed to be recalibrated periotically to ensure accuracy. Police recalibrate once a day or their fine do not hold up in court.
They say GPS is accurate to +/- three feet, well they say that becuase they don't want to be held liable and because of the errors entered in to the civilan frequency band (L1). Anyway, that was before the manufactures started using various error correcting techniques and services like WAAS. The average GPS these days is a lot more accurate then what they claim. A WAAS enabled GPS on a lake with 4 sats locked is easily accurate to within a foot. I've done a lot of mapping/vehice tracking work with GPS and GIS, so this is what my comments are based on. With an accurate map of a 4 lane highway you can even tell what lane the car is in.
Anyway, not to start a war, but I'd trust a GPS reading over one from a 2 year old radar guns then been sliding around some guys back seat and never been recalibrated.
GPS rocks!

What would be the cheapest GPS to get that you could use to check speeds on a sled?

my garmin gps unit dosen't get within 8 feet with 7 sats locked on an open lake. the raymarine units i install only get to within 3 feet and thats with a fixed mount antenna.

GPS vs. Radar guns.
I know you guy sare gonna jump all over this but just read and think about it.
Alot of todays GPS's are very accurate at locating something somewhere through triangulation, however their accuracy in a straight line at speed, varies through their processor speed and number of samples taken in a given time, and as we all are very familiar, the most accurate GPS systems are not available to the public, just the military. Not to mention even though it's a fraction of a second that information between numerous devices still has to travel 1000's of miles. So to say that a GPS is the most accurate say in a quarter mile run is very inaccurate. When are going say 95 to 100 mph, you are moving at near 200ft. per sec. depending on the sampling per sec of your gps at the very end of the track you may get a false reading, as well, that higher speed number you get is what the gps read after you went through the traps before you hit the brakes. The trap clicks you out of the run at the given point, the GPS doesn't know that.
Timing systems at the drags strip are very accurate. Why? Because they only do one thing, you break a beam at the begining and one at the end, the time it took you to do that over a given distance is you ET and the speed is a calculation of time and distance. It cannot measure acceleration, thats why they have mid track timers to give you those calculations.
Radar guns are a crap shoot, how old they are, whether they've been recalibrated, some of those old guns would give you very inconsistent numbers. When you say radar gun, as far as I'm concerned there's only one, that being a Stalker. A stalker translates information at 200 times per second only at the given distance required. So if you're radaring at object at 1000ft, that info only has to travel that far, and the accuracy only depends on how staight you're running at it. As well the Stalker is more sensitive than any GPS.
Try this simple test, take your gps and attach it to a ceiling fan blade running at slow speed, it will give you a constant number. Take a Stalker, point it at the same ceiling fan and downlaod it to your laptop. It not only will give you the speed of the blade but acceleration and deceleration between the blades, the graph will look like a wave.
A GPS may be a great device to put in your pocket and make a pass to see how fast you were going and is more accurate than your dream meter on the dash, I doubt it is the most accurate, or, consistent, it may be the most economical.

800 I agree trap timing system is the most accurate.
Me too. Timing lights don't lie, unless they are effected by falling snow (seen that before). Measure the distance with a laser though, so you know its accurate.

That is the only draw back to a Stalker in the winter, snow, if it starts snowing, it reads the snow falling and screws up the run you are trying to download.
