Yes.

8m6= model designation (chassis), RT437= engine model #, 000990= serial # for both engine and chassis.

If the serial #'s match and it is the correct engine model for the chassie it is a #'s matching sled.

Thanks. I am calling on an 81 SRX tomorrow. I am sure it is a complete matching one, just need to be sure. What do you think a fair/going price for these? Complete and running. In good original shape, well stored/kept,no restoration has been started.

Hmmmmmm........That is a good question ! ? ! I'm sure one with matching #'s certainly would someday be more of a collectible than the run of the mill updated 81 ? My guess.... ~$1500-1800 ?

Samuel, Lapland..... wow talk about the great white north..... :) ! (004204) Hmmmm...... this brings me to and interesting question. With the exception of one lone (1982 SRX/Vmax 010154) that was given to me, all the USA Vin. #'s start with prefix such as 8X6- Which indicates model year and end with 3 leading zero's and then the serial # such as 8X6-0001581 the highest number we had until now for the 84 models. So, if they were sold to some where besides North America maybe they inserted a digit in the three leading spaces 8X6-004204 ? Certainly, the digit 4 cannot be a part of the actual vin # because, if it was then that would mean there were 4204 Vmax540's sold outside North America ? Maybe the 4 is the country with 204 units sold there ?

This was a interesting topic. I have bought a vmax engine for å couple of months ago, there was still the engine number at the gear case: it is 8x6-004208. I do not now where this engine come from, or where the frame is. But this gear case cover is located in Norway.

As you see, it is only two 0 before the number. But if someone has the original partsmanual for europe vmx540h, there shall be documented which number was sold here.

I did sak a similar question here before about the 80 and 81 srx 440..
 
You will find it very hard to find an 81 SRX with an engine vin. most of the 81's had the gear box recalled and replaced with a new gear box with NO VIN number on it. with the gear box you also got a new ignition, new CDI box too. so, if you find an 81 with a vin'd motor matching the tunnel that is unusual. Rare, maybe, valuable probably not that much based your getting a sled with the defective gear box and probably ignition parts. Just and FYI.

81 Srx

I have 6 81 SRX motors and only 1 has a serial # stamped on it. This one looks to be new. Must of been removed within the first few miles for unknown reasons. 2 motors are seized all the rest run well.
