SRX models

did the 77 have the shocks on the outside of the tunnel? i was told that the 77 picture isn't an accurate picture because of this?

No shocks at all. Only stabilizer bar. That picture is from early proto model. Edit: Second picture is more like it is.

The ssr was about 100 hp. That's only because the pipes made more power. The heavy bottom end was somthing out of a tank. The 77 srx never had any shocks in the rear skid. Like Reimond said just the rear sway bar. Had two limiter straps. one up front and one in the rear. The 76 oval guys back then removed the rear shock on the 76 srx's. I think they placed a limiter there also. Put that suspension in you 78/79 or 80. Nice and light. Tony, I though the 77 blizzard ony made 100hp? Where talking stock. I know the old 9500 blizzard mod made over 124hp from the crankshop. That was my High Point Champion sled in the East Coast back in 96 on the ice. Took everything including Skip Vaninburg and my buddy Billy Lang. That's right I have the trophy in my shop. 96/97 High Points Championship in the open Mod class to prove it. Not many peopl;e out there ever beat those guys. I did. Dean-o

DEAN, I BELIEVE THAT 77 BLIZZARD WAS A BRUTAL MACHINE. VERY STRONG. I ALMOST REMEMBER THEY WERE BETTER THAN A 100. SEEMS 105/108 SOUND RIGHT. PROBLEM WITH THEM IS DON,T THINK THEY CORNERED LIKE THE 77 SRX. COULD BE WHY THEY WERE A MONSTER IN STRAIT LINE. !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

I just had to ask a question about a photo in the 40th anniversary yamaha collector,s book.On page 26 they show racer Morio Ito riding a 77 SRX440 with what appears to be a IFS set-up on the sled. Can you experts give me some info on this sled.I hope im not intruding on this tread.

Srx

I believe those were added by the mechanics and not from the factory. They did some cutting to add those.

That's when he was designing and testing the IFS. He was one of the brains behind the whole set up for the 78 SSR. It was to heavy and over kill for the sled. Polaris dominated the IFS. Read that magazine and you'll learn a lot on what happened back in 77/78 season. Dean-o

So which one was or is the best and fastest? I'm currently rebuilding a 8k2. I thought it had more than 75hp? Felt more like 90 with bad seals? Anybody?

Well I bought an 83 new and while I never lined up one of the early SRX's, I smoked ANY of the competition. The primary grenaded at 6000k and it broke a ring at 8000, but I lucked out and had no cylinder damage. So I re-ringed her and ate my brother-in-laws then new 650 RXL which upset him to no end! Dealer told me it was 95 HP and it sure went like it. I put ten K on it before I finally sold it. Sure miss it and would love to have another. Great pic, kind of brings a tear to my eye. G.

A good running STOCK Vmax 540 should do about 96-99 MPH on good ice on radar. The update ported ones will add about 4-5 MPH more.

anyone here give an honest speed of a good runnin studded 83 v-max on ice?
TO ME THIS IS WHAT THE VMAX WAS BUILT FOR , REALLY RUNNING THE LONG HAUL ON A LAKE. THESE SLEDS WERE VERY CABABLE OF LOW/MID NINETIES IN LETS SAY 1000 F.T. 3:16 (yammie tony)
