Avalanche Warning

Geezzs, things are not getting any better. Be carefull, everyone.

Jan.13, 2 skiers dead, Montana.

Colorado from south to north is dangerous. 7 feet of snow in last 7 days in lots of areas. Rode last three days not seeing my hands through several meadows standing up to see where I was going. Stay off the hills, there is more than enough fun on the flat areas if you like swimming on your sled.

We are looking at 25 total so far, but reports out of California, there might be 2 or 3 more.
The yearly average is 25 and we have 2 to 3 months of riding left in the West. Another storm moving into the western mountains tonight and tomorrow lasting most of the week.

Jan. 29- 3 snowmobilers missing since Sunday (Jan.27)?- Colorado

Extreme blizzard warning for the Snowy Range till Thursday, heavy snow and extremely high winds. After it is over....BE CAREFUL!

:( :( :(

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. -- Two of three missing snowmobilers were found alive late Tuesday after a National Guard Blackhawk helicopter flew over their makeshift camp and saw a signal fire they had built.

Greg Morris, of Florida, and Murry Melloni, of Littleton, Colo., were found two miles from Elliot Ridge on the west side of Eagle County.

The helicopter that spotted their campfire was able to land close enough to allow the crew to snowshoe in and bring out the two stranded men.

The third snowmobiler, John McKibben, of Kremmling, Colo., died sometime during the night on Monday, according to the survivors.

"They were very disoriented from the cold and the storm, but one of them was able to tell us they were with McKibben when he died," said Paulette Horr with the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Well the total is now up to 30 killed due to avalanche. However the rate has dropped drastically from when the season started. The season has a long way to go yet and this weekend being the biggest sledding weekend of the season, I just what to remind everybody to be carefull.
I would like to thank all the guys that help promote this thread and keep all of us informed and educated about the hazards of mountain riding. A big Thanks to Mr. Sled for posting the SAWS article for me, hope everyone got some great information out of that.
Again everybody be safe and have a Great Presidents weekend of sledding. If you are coming west, Welcome. :wel:
Thanks again to all the Ty members. We will keep this going as long as need be.

Even though alot of the snow pack has settled, that doesn't mean we can let our guard down. There is a new set of rules that apply to spring riding. The sun changes angles, different slopes become shadowed and different slopes have the sun on them. Check the avalanche sites for the differents in spring and winter riding. Also the lakes and streams may begin to start flowing and weaken' the snow cover on top.
Keep up the good work, NO KNOWN VICTUMS in the last 3 weeks.
