Is it to slow for the snow....???

Well, i fixed my speedometer the other day and took it for a test run. I got it to top out at 65mph....now i am wondering if this is a little to slow for my sled? any ideas? how to fix?

Sled: 96 VMAX 600
Me: 160 lbs 5'11

I echo everyone else, that sled should do much better. Check out your basics and make sure everything is in working order. The motor is turning that's for sure.

That is really slow check your pistons and how many miles are on the sled?? If the pistons are shiny that mean u need new pistons.. and check your clutch and carbs ex.

Yea. it runs great. Throttle response is good. Its a new/used motor in it and i believe it has like 2000 miles on it. I just replaced the rollers in the clutch. It also has a brand new belt.

what were the conditions like? a foot of pow pow or hardpacl?

on hardpack you should hit 90 pretty easy

they were great. i was running it in a field and ther was a little grass visible. Yea it wasnt pow. It was the day before it all got melted. engine sounds fine at start up. no hesitation at idle

any ideas?

thanks dave. I just want to get things working as good as they can before a big snow storm comes and i can;t keep up with my buds. lol. So probly just clean the carbs? its a brand new belt to the specifications of that sled.

Something is really wrong here. To be spinning that many r's and only hitting 65mph sounds like a clutching issue to me. I would take a look at your secondary clutch, the previous owner may have made some changes. Another, but less likely scenario is that you have too much rolling resistance. Is your track super tight? Maybe some bad bearings somewhere?

Were you just relying on the speedo or were you running with other sleds? Maybe the speedo is just wrong. Cycle magazines used to test bikes against timing equipment then post what the speedo was showing. Some are way off.

D

It could be the speedo is off as suggested. Try loosening the secondary wrap. It could be to tight and not shifting out. Its a bit of a pain on that sled cause you have to take the secondary off. Also its a good oportunity to check it over for worn parts etc.
