Go back to AMSnow!

This guy should go back to AMSnow where he belongs! That message board is full of trouble makers and cry babies. All I can say is; Does Yamaha make the fastest sled on snow? No!..But I'll take reliabilty/fit & finish over that any day! Hmmmm I guess I own an old persons sled too. After all I am 47 yrs old..hahahahahahaha..Show me a 2stroke that you can hold to the handlebar for infinety! Take the RX-1 and put it against any 700-800 in 500-600 feet and yes it will be on the short end of the stick. But give the RX-1 room to roam and it's going by most any sled out there! Just my opinion I could be wrong.Ah well guys lets not get our panties in a bunch over this meathead. He obviously has no feckin clue!

out dated ha!

I will tell ya something I like about my yamaha, I have been going north for 2 years now and I bought a 97 sx from a friend and the thing I like is I have seen so many of the other brands broke down along the trail it is pitiful. Yes some will say that is because there are more of the other brands on the trails than there are yamaha's but I don't believe it . Too many companies have to change something every year but Yamaha gets a good design and something that works and sticks with it for a long time (sometimes too long for some peoples opinion).Thats what makes the Yamaha dependable in my book! Also to those who like to bash the rx-1, how many 1000 cc sleds out there are getting 17-18 MPG or better without stinking up the country side ( although I myself love the 2 stroke smell), and thats with electric start and "being a tank". I rode a friends last year and the only thing I had to get used to was the braking when you let off of the throttle, other than that I loved it , but oh I forgot I am not johnnie wanna be sno crosser. Also why is it when I was riding it on the lake why was EVERYONE and I meen everyone wanting to race. Could this be because it is one of the dominant top end sleds. Anyway if ya don't like Yamaha don't buy it and don't bash it because it's not your brand, because you know what there are alot of people that don't like the other brands also. For me I have always had yamaha's and have had great luck with them and I doubt I will ever change ,,,but you never know,,,My 2 cents

old guy

I'm an old guy and am getting tired of just putting gas and oil in my Yammie just so I can tow someone. No rebuilds in 11,000 Kilometers. Maybe I,'ll rebuild in a couple of years though, just in case. Turning 54 next month, can't be the oldest person on the TY. Can I??

I hear ya on the towing in the other sleds,,,,but I think something is wrong with my yamaha though ,,,when I would be towing in a GREEN sled last winter my Yamaha kept slowing down when it went past the lodge right about where the bar is and where everyone could see outside. Then it would run fine and speed back up,,,,can't figure it out darnest thing though!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I didn't know anything about sleds three years ago. I rode my friends polaris and really wasn't impressed. The next year he bought a new SRX 700 triple and let me ride it, man what a ride that was. I bought one the next day. I haven't found a sled to ride as comfortable as the yamaha and it pulls forever. I just bought a SX Viper mountain and am looking forward to the deep snow................Yamaha makes the best sled in my opinion....................!!

An old time bud of mine wanted to get into the snowmobile game. He has never owned one or had any knowledge of sleds. We hit all the dealers. Anyway it was kinda funny cus my buddy wondered why a 3 year old Yammie looked way better then the new cats & poo,s. He also thought his 7 year old kid could do a better job putting em together. He could not handle the looks of the rev & he is also a big(6'3"-235) dude & it did not fit him. Anyway it was kind of funny that a guy that has had zero knowledge of sleds could nail the quality issues with out seeing a sled for 5 years.

At least us Yamaha riders actually get to ride our reliable sleds.
My buds with the skidoo and arctic cats are always fixing their broken machines.
One friend was crying that his skidoo spent 36 days in the shop last season....Ah!!!! i was on my yamaha without a breakdown.
It is hard fro them to keep up with my on their snowshoes. HAHA.
Love my yamaha

I rode my SRX for 3 seasons and no break downs, only great riding.....................!!!!!

I ride a 2001 mountainmax 700.i have never had a problem with the sled.7000 km on the speedo now, amazing quality./Max

How did you know I wear a thong? That's it, I'm closing the blinds when I do my Flashdance impersonation!

Really, these guys don't upset me. I'd rather they realize what TY is all about and contribute something. Somebody's got to let them know this is a non bash site is all! The worst we can do is bash back too...

Nah, the worst we could do is go out and buy a "doo" or a Polaris................................ :P

Hey sledder can you tell me how many outdoor moto-cross and super-cross championships that ski-doo, polaris, and arctic-cat have won?

I can't beleive these guys. Where do they get their info.
I have a freind who owns a RX1 and I mean nothing was able to keep up with him last year. Not done up 1000, not done up 800 like the yellow one that many brag about.
He has done some minor mods and runs over 130 in radar.
He can pull out of the whole faster than any sled and I tell you he has done it many times.

You don't have a clue

You say they are getting out of the biz, yet they were the only manufacturer I saw at Novi that was actively working the crowd for opinion polls on new product R&D, and they just built a huge facility in Wisconsin because the US Motor Corp segment is a growing part of the business. Don't rip them b/c they target an audience whose core demographic characteristics are wealthier, older, more educated buyers. They don''t aim for the 18 yr old Blair Morgan wannabe that makes $24K per year and spends it all on a sled, only to trash it and end up with 3 warranty claims per season. No, instead that aim for a smaller segment -they go for people who can afford and appreciate the quality. The strategy to offer a more reliable product that can be dialed in by the user, and a lot more in terms of quality and fit of finish. It is actually a very shrewd business model because it makes sense. You are just not smart enough to get it.

First of all Yamaha's are the most reliable sleds out there, especially the non power valve triples, they are unbeatable, as for their suspension, I love my 2002 mmax, rides great so wha'ts the deal? yamaha could jack the back up like polaris and make the tippy, or make the engines put out so much HP they run borderline to burning up like Arctic Craps new 700 Fcat's, which spend more time in the shop then on the snow, how many times your yamaha been in the shop or broke down on the trail? not many right? Yamaha is coming out with some new technology, they are a smaller operation then polaris and have more unique sleds, look at one polaris and they all look the same, why so many? confusing. As for the Four stroke technology, try their RX1 against cat's new turbo or skidoo's one, they are a joke, yamaha will whip them every time, for a large heavy 4 stroke emision tested till god knows when sled it's awesome, and it has the new non trailing arm front suspension too, and it looks much better then the cat front set up........... Team Blue till I die!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to fight about it..

I think this is very funny, and I expect the bar fight to start any minute...

However, this is fight will be followed with the mopar, chevy, Ford (no particular order..)argument

The only truth to the entire statement (attn: Canuck)Is Yamaha is 2or so steps away from focusing all efforts on other portions of the business. The snowmobile portion is the smallest % of Yamahas business, and they do not like to cut corners to be lower priced. A businees decision they will make, but you influence will have no effect (even if you set up a line of people with yamaha suck signs)

Again, I am not sure of your point, but assure you that your agenda and tactics are odd...

Good Luck with whatever brand you choose, and they are all very good. (except Yamaha...)

I think your energy should be redirected to saving the world from some other "scam", "crime" or otherwise.

if you dont like yamaha go to a ski doo just make shere somone has a yamaha to tow you back when you melt a piston 8)

Yamaha is a joke?

I used to go to the forums on maximumsled and they do bash Yamaha quite a lot. About once a month someone would do a poll on "who is leaving Yamaha?"
Its nice to come here and not deal with that.
The reason why Yamaha dropped the Phazer and the 500s is because they werent selling as well as the 600s and 700s. The plan and simple fact is that there are more 600cc snowmobiles sold (of ANY brand) than any other displacement. Why, you ask? Well, a 600 has plenty of power for most people, yet they still get decent fuel milage, handle very well and arent terribily expensive to buy.
As far as trailing-arms being a dated design, so what if they are? Yamaha has never followed the market fads (Yamaha ran the big twins when triples were all the rage) but they have always made sleds that got you where you wanted to go without a lot of drama.
This past weekend I was snowmobiling in norther Wisconsin and some people on REVs blew by me on a twisty trail. I decided to see if I could keep up with them, which I did. Aroung the corners, those REVs had more inside ski-lift than my old pogo Phazer did. I still dont see what is so great about the REV, other than its the newest deisgn. I still havent seen how its any better than anything else.
As far as Yamaha being 2 step away from being out of the snowmbile biz, I doubt it. In the past 5 years, Yamaha has gained marketshare every year. Why would they pull out?
The people I ride with have newer sleds of every other brand but Yamaha. When I bought my Phazer all I heard from them was how Yamahas always break down, how parts are so expensive, how they take about 100 pulls to start in the morning and how they get rotten fuel economy. Not only was my sled the ONLY one to not have a mechical failure, Ive noticed that parts are no more expensive than for any other brand (in fact they are far cheaper than Ski-Doo), my sled started every morning on the 2nd pull and the engine never stalled during warm-up (cant say that about a couple of the Polaris' in my group) and it got 18 mpg with temps that were 30-35 degrees!
I cant see where I can complain about that (not bad for a $1200 sled, eh)?

I said this before and now I will say it again. If you own a cat or polaris you own a disposable rasor, you use it and throw it away. I own a 600 mm twin and put 10,000 KM on it before sticking a piston. I have never heard of a polaris or cat coming close to that. I also have a 700 mm triple and I regard it as the best triple on the market. Sorry we don't need any cry babies on this site. Go ride a disposable rasor sledder if you want but be carefull not to cut yourself us yamaha foke don't carry bandaids.
