Just looking for some opinions on trail porting. I have a 98 SRX now and was looking at purchaisng a 2000. My only concern is the 2000 has been trail ported by race logic. Does porting affect reliablility, gas mileage or anything else? I think they claim an additional 10-15 hp which would be great as long as I'm not putting rings in it all the time and eating up huge amounts of fuel. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Trail porting is not a problem most of the time, and yes it adds hp you my lose some mileage, Not sure here. T

My biggest concern would be reliablility. I wonder why the manufactures don't have more aggressive porting if relibablity isn't a problem? Is it more that sometimes aftermarket companies just have better designs for the porting?

Maybe because the original has to fit "everyone"?
And cause as little problems as possible.
Then every single machine is unique and has to be dialed in individually to get the most performance out of it!

As long as you go with a respected company the porting reliability will not be an issue. I would suggest getting it done by mrviper off of this site. By far the best value for an SRX. My experience with Hauck porting was no change in gas mileage until you rode it real hard.. Then I lost 1 mpg.

Okay, thanks for the info. My concern is not whether to port or not but more an issue of whether or not to buy a 2000 SRX that has been ported by race logic. My 98 is stock and runs great. I love the reliability and gas mileage. The 2000 SRX has some feature I like and I am thinking of trading up but have concerneds since the one I'm looking is ported. A properly ported SRX must run pretty sweet though. Another 10hp over what my 98 is would be awesome. I guess they are another 6hp anyway so I might be looking at another 15hp?

I've got a trail ported 2001 SRX done this year by Mrviper. It runs very strong, have no issues so far at 300 miles, plug reads look better and the gas mileage seems un changed from stock. I still get about the same mileage as my son's SX-R 600.

porting

Mr.Viper ported my 02 SRX this year. Very happy with the results.I did notice it does use alittle more gas but who cares its a BLAST.

Well, thanks for all the advice. I went and bought it. Already having an 98 SRX you wouldn't think one would be excited buying a second but I'm just itching to try this one out. Love the headlight and the all blue look.

I JUST LAKE RACE / TRAIL PORT A SET OF CYLINDERS MYSELF. I GOT LUCKY AND FOUND ANOTHER SET. I PRETTY MUCH MADE SOME CHANGES WITH A GREAT PORT MAN I KNOW. YOU GUYS HERE THAT ARE RUNNING PORTED MOTORS, DID YOU UP JETTING ? 3:16 (yammie tony)

I think the sled I just purchased has been jetted up 2 sizes. Thats what the guy I bought it from said. He also put in a cold air kit and gutted the air box. Some people say not to gut the airbox and that they are best left alone. Any opinions out there on the airbox mod?

The only thing with racelogic porting is, Did the owner do it himself or did racelogic do it? They sell the templates so you can do it yourself. I was going to do this myslef but after i got mine done from Mrviper, i noticed he did his differently from racelogic and based on what i saw and what racelogics templates do i beleieve MRVIPER"S will be more reliable. About the Gas mileage, because it is so fun to hammer the throttle, you will notice that your onto it alot more because of the fun factor and for that reason you will use a little more gas. If you driving normal you will not notice an increase in fuel usage.

Actually they were sent away and race logic did it themselves. That is what the seller had told me anyhow. I have heard of the templetes you can buy on ebay or something. I don't think its something I would want to tackle. Well, from what most people are saying there are too many cons to trail porting. I can't wait to try the sled out. I've been driving my 98 for 6 seasons now. I hope to actually notice the difference in the 2 sleds.

The only con to good trail porting is wondering why you wasted all that money on speed parts that did nothing before!

Okay, now I really can't wait to get this thing out. It really is crazy what people can spend on products that do very little. My old 98 I guess would have been pushing around 138-140hp. If this thing is getting upwards of 150hp then that should be a good "seat of the pants" you can notice kind of difference. Would or could your max hp occur at a different rpm than stock. I know stock 8300-8500 is good for an SRX. What about with a trail port?

DON WILL EVEN TELL YA 150-155 IS GREAT HORSEPOWER FOR A STILL LAKE/TRAIL RACE PORT JOB. HERE IS A QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS, YOU HAVE YA BEAT WITH THIS PORTING. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I haven't beat anyone since I haven't been on it yet.lol Do you mean that 150hp is kind of higher than one would expect with a trail port job? I thought the 00-02 SRX's had somewhere around 145hp stock!
