DUDE, YOUR THE MAN HERE, WHY WOULD I DO THAT. ALL I AM GONNA TELL YA IS I AM ALOT OF THINGS AND A LIAR AIN,T ONE OF THEM. MY SLEDS ARE NOT FAST, NEVER CLAIMED THEM TO BE. I AM A ALSO RAN JUST LIKE THE NEXT GUY, BUT I THINK I HAVE A CLUE WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DON,T. I HAVE TOO GREAT RUNNING SRX,s, THEY UNBEATABLE, HELL NO !!! MY POINT IS I DON,T WANT TO GO SLOWER !!! WHERE YA SEE '' DOSE MR VIPER PORTING MAKE YA FASTER ''. I HAVE ALOT OF RESPECT FOR YOU, VERY SMART MAN, AND IT WAS YOU THAT DRILLED ME ABOUT H/C, BUT I AM TELLING YA I HAVE A NICE 8BU SET-UP IN MY 02 SRX THAT HAS BEAT,IN APPEX,s. Tony, you have to be the most stubborn person I know, I mean look at all the back and forth we went over h/c's, you never had them but you would swear they couldnt be better then the old 8bu's, we laugh at it now but this is no differnt, if you add 15hp to the sled its not gonna be slower then stock! I dont know whos cylinders you got but if they are done correctly with head cut and piston mod your looking at a solid 15hp gain, some good clutching on top of that and the sled will fly. I am not saying nothing will beat one because theres always a faster someone with more $$, but set up right, they wont lose to many "trail" sleds, including f7's,apex's,mach z's etc. you wont be going backwards if you have good specs.

also,I wasnt cutting you down, you said now you were scared, so I said just leave it stock with 8bu's, that "lol" means laughing out loud, which pertains to joking in my understanding. You see alot of things can be construed differnt ways by sitting reading print instead of seeing a persons facial expressions and the tone of thier voice, so sometimes things are taken the wrong way, sometimes the right way. dont get so grumpy..............LOL!!

To answer your question from a few pages ago, From the info I find here I must be just about the only on around with a ported, Stock pipe Viper. I haven't had huge amounts of runs against other sleds but from my experience it seems about as fast as a stock SRX. I'm not sure about long top end runs. Have'nt had much oppertunity for that. That's also what the shop that did the work told me to expect. They have done a few. I'm sure Mr. Viper could tell you much better than me. I probably would have had him do the work if I new about this board earlier but I am very happy with the work I had done at a locally well known shop. I'm set up fairly conservitive. One gasket layer removed, 8DN-20s, 21 top gear, roller 41/35 Helix, Jetted up 1 1/2 on mains, a little rich but nice and solid for trail use with a little lake racing. I have had no problems to this date.

Wow-- thanks Bornyamaha... I didn't think I 'd ever hear a response once those two got going^^^ LOL! I do plan on having Don trail port mine after this season's over and hadn't heard from anyone who had a stock viper done. I'll need to re-ring anyways with about 5000miles on 'er. Was also hoping Don would chime in with a HP gain(roughly?) from this application. You could definitely tell the difference from stock, eh? I'm thinking it's less of a gain w/single pipe...

in reference to the trail porting on a SRX where you are suppose to use higher octane fuel..... if your out riding and premium fuel isnt available can you still safely run a mid grade fuel without concern for damaging something?

AND EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE,I STOKE THAT DEBATE UP AGAIN. HOW ANYBODY THINKS A STOCK STREET BIKE CAN BEAT A STOCK MUSCLE SLED IS CRAZY. ANYWAYS DON, YOU KNOW I LIKE TO RACE, I JUST WANT TO SEE A DEFFERENCE. YOU KNOW WHAT I DO. WE RACED THIS FALL WITH MY VMAX 4 PROBLEY ONE OF THE BEST SET- UP APPEX IN NY WITH GOOD SUSESS, BUT IT WAS NO WALK IN THE PARK. 3;16 (yammie tony)mrviper700 said:see all you need now is the little "LOL" after your type and I can hear you laughing again......that was one of the best debates on amsnow ever, those "9 second stock streetbike" guys were pissed at these little sleds!!!!!!

I am sorry, guess I never paid attention to your question Milleniumrocket: trail ported viper with single pipe=10hp gain, you can take that to the bank! they need good fuel when done!
On the fuel issue, it depends upon whos doing the work on the heads, some companys cut them more then others, differnt builders, differnt specs. On my stuff I will tell you to always run 93-94 fuel, if you cant get it at the trail side gas stop then I tell you to keep a bottle of octane boost in the trunk, and dump a half bottle in per tank. I know it doesnt make 87 into 94, but its cheaper then buying pistons!
Tony, I know what you do as far as racing, who did the work on the cylinders? why dont you pm me and we can see where your at.

DON, I WILL PM YOU. ALL I CAN TELL YA QUICKLY IS THEY WERE GIAMETTI (mega - power ) CYLS THAT ALREADY HAD ALITTLE WORK DONE TO THEM THAT CAME OFF A 2000 SRX THAT WAS PARTS OUT HERE. I JUST HAD THEM REFINED. THEY DON,T LOOK FULL BLOWN TO ME, BUT A NICE LAKE RACE JOB. I WILL SAY IF I SEE 15 HORSE I AM FLYING TO OHIO TO KISS YA. 3:16 (yammie tony)

MrViper,
How much do you charge to do the trail porting? I have a 98 SRX, and I would like to do this over the summer.
Thanks

Nice--10 horse--- better than I thought. Does this require any jetting changes, or would it be safer to up the jetting any?? Thanks

Do the heads need to be cut when porting? I would like to port my piped viper but 93-94 fuel is not available here. Is there any HP gain doing the porting without cutting the head?

the head isnt touched when ported on a single pipe viper, theres machine work done to the cylinder. I dont know what youd gain without doing the machine work. Jetting depends soley upon temps and elevation run in, sometimes slight changes needed, motor basicly becomes more efficient so you dont need alot of extra fuel all the time.
In general, when you port something you raise the exh port and you lower the compression ratio, this is why you machine the heads to gain back the loss of compression from the exh port being open sooner and longer. youd have to pm me for stuff.
Tony, lets check a few measurements, and I can give you a real close idea as to what ya got there and what to expect. my phone is 330-448-8796, all youll need is a digital set of calipers and the cylinder. You can keep the kiss.., unless you look like heather locklear

ALSO THE EXHAUST PORT IS SMOOTH AS A BABY REAR, BUT THEY WERE LIKE THAT WHEN I GOT THEM AND BUFFED . THE TRANSFER PORTS HAVE BEEN OPENED AND CLEANED, AND THAN KNIFED EDGE. GUY HERE ADDED THE PISTON MOD FOR ME. AGAIN HEADS I HAVE FEW SETS TO TRY. DON, AGAIN THIS DOSE NOT LOOK FULL BLOWN. AND I DON,T WANT IT TO BE !! I STILL WANT TO RUN 8500. I DID NOT HAVE THEM CASE MATCHED TO MY CASE. UNLESS MEGA -POWER DID, IT DON,T LOOK IT. DUDE, NO HEATHER LOCKLEAR HERE !! lol. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Next step for my single pipe Viper is the 10hp port job set up with SRX heads/SRX Orings/SRX B-gasket/MPP water rail vs using the non cooling Viper head. My goal is to have a fast AND unique Viper without the use of triple pipes.
