Does a drop in engine minus the clutch for $600 sound reasonable? Not sure on the mileage or year, but claimed it came from a running sled.

Has anyone ever seen how much oil comes out of an oil pump? Should there be a steady flow, or more of a drip?

i've seen 'em go for 450 and under on steal-bay in the past, should be
able to find one W/O clutch and carbs for 425 or under..
few years back had a '95 500 i couldn't give away,,,gave it away for 300...
i guess 450 wouldn't be too bad for the milage........

This motor for $450 is from the older body style for 97. Will it work in the new body style for 97?

In 97, there was the VMAX with the pogo stick front suspension, and the VMAX with the newer style front suspension. Will the motor from the Pogo Style work in the newer style? I assume it will.

What is the torque specification for the cylinders as well as the head? Is there a pattern for tightening the head that I need to follow? Um, what is the recommedation for using this sled with a new top end? Should I mix the oil with the gas? Any break in? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

head torque is- first round 9.4 (ft lbs),second round is- 17(ft lbs)
you can pre-mix some gas would be a good idea so you'll know the oil pump
is primed, don't go hog wild with the pre-mix tho,50-60:1 is plenty...

SXRAY and Damon, thanks for your help with this thread. SXRAY, the used cylinder and piston assembly worked great. I re-used my best cylinder, and piston assembly and got 110 compression in both cylinders. I took the sled out yesterday for about an hour and I couldn't tell any difference then what it was before. I pre-mixed this tank and verified I am using oil as well with the new pump properly primed. Good to go for Hurley this weekend. When I get back, I plan to put new rings in to see if I can get any better compression, depending on how she does in Hurley this weekend. Once again thanks for your help.

Your gonna have to get some pistons but you are going to bore that one cly thats all marked up.. So one you will need std piston and the other one u are gonna have to go next size up. You might as well get the wrist bearings too.. they are cheap.. but go with dennis kirk they will probbly have like 4 differnt brands of pistons you can choose from..
