I have not seen those kind of issues 03viperguy.
I had a couple of mustangs that I would store every fall for winter. I never once drained the gas, or added stabil or anything, and never once had an issue with starting in spring. Also, I never have had issues on my motorcycles that I obviously store for winter as well. Sleds, well, they always take a little to get going after sitting 3/4 of the year.
I think any minor issues will be worked out fairly soon after switching to reformulated gas. Heck, the holding tanks at stations probably even get cleaned by the alcohol and ned more cleaning at first.

you give me hope made my friends gas in his ducati go bad in a short time too. smells HORRIBLE, like gas in 30 year old sleds (my dad collects vintage sleds, I know the smell lol!!)

Well here in Ontario since Jan. '07 all gasoline must contains an average of at least 5% ethanol. But what I found since, most pumps now have stickers saying gas could contain up to 10% Ethanol. I haven't heard anything from the sledding community when this change happen. Mind you I just started sledding. Maybe someone else on this forum from Ontario could tell you if they needed to change jetting. But my guess is they all left it stock since it is on the conservative side already.

Went out for a 300 mile ride on my Viper on the weekend and only used ethanol blended fuel.Plugs and pistons look good and the sled performed well.No issues yet

Gasohol (GAS)
I re-read the manual for the 97 Venture 600. It appears that Yamaha interprets 5% ethanol gasoline as oxygenated and the switch should reflect that. Hmmm well I may give it a try since with the exception of premium in some stations all the other grades contain up to 10% ethanol.

how cold was it outside?... check plugs and wash when it's minus 30C... might be unpleasantly surprised...

It got nearly -30 C here last year. But this year only -20 C occasionally at night. The winter has not been too cold very long. Daytime temp in the single digits so far. There us no ethanol is some Premium pumps 91 or 92 octane like Shell V-Power.
TJ500 - whats the scope with unpleasently surprised above? We don't have much choice unless we spend 10 cent or more a liter for the premium gas!!!

if it's warm out you'll get away with it... if it's really cold out, you may not...
Premium or rejet are our options... just wanted something concrete on rejetting for 10% ethanol...
mains, and or needles, and or pilots???...
(which brings us back to my first post)!!

It a provincial mandate since Jan. '07. All gasoline (even Shell V-Power or any other premium) must contains an average of at least 5% ethanol. I'm pretty sure they have stickers on the pumps at Shell too. I'll double check next time.

Could be a must read
I don't want to plagiarize another source so have a look. They are talking about blowing engines in older machines etc due to ethanol.

Not sure who that is but he is wrong on the octane level. Ethanol is actually a cheap way to raise the octane level of regular gas. I don't believe one bit that ethanol was the cause of his burned pistons. These things start happened to sleds since the first one came out.

Well I can understand that but the fact I also which is in the Yamaha Venture 600 98 manual. Gasohol (ethanol blended gas of 5% even) is consided to be oxygenated!! Hmmm ok this sled has a switch to adjust for that. (How I don't know since it's electronically controlled). My other sleds don't have such a feature. I recall decades ago people saying the gas line antifreeze is hard on rings. Well this is in the fuel all the time. Poor rings must be cooking.PhatboyC said:Not sure who that is but he is wrong on the octane level. Ethanol is actually a cheap way to raise the octane level of regular gas.
