2003 VIPER ER STOCK EXHAUST.RIPSAW 136" 1-1/4" I AM GOING TO TRY THIS SET UP:
Primary: red spring, heel 4.3, middle empty, tip 3.4, using stock 14.5 rollers
Secondary: 48/34 helix, red spring at 80 twist.
I HAVE READ ON THIS SETUP. MY QUESTION IS : WILL 15mm ROLLERS HAVE A BIG DIFFERANCE RATHER THAN USING THE STOCK 14.5 ROLLERS.

I'm thinking your useing heelclickers? I tried the smaller rollers in mine and noticed it hit a lot harder when the primary engaged. Switching to 15mm rollers softened the blow and it didn't spin as hard. I didn't really do any testing with both rollers. I just switched to the 15mm and tested with them.

lol, going to try my setup eh. Let me know how it works for you.

Using the larger rollers will calm that setup down a little. It does like to spin the track if you go past 1/2 throttle off the line. If you are changing the rollers you may as well go with the 15.6mm (unless you have the 15s already), no sense in going 1/2 way. Also you may need to add a little more weight to the tip.

As for the secondary, you'll need it a little tighter then what you posted or it will likely under-rev. Start at 90 or 100. When I was fine tuning that setup I actually found the green spring at 60 worked best for trail riding. Drop the twist to 50 if you go ice racing.

Enjoy and let us know what you think of the setup.

i do believe you have clearance issues when using the 15.6 mm rollers and heel clickers recommend that you not use them.
Don't think so. I even think MrViper recommends using the 15.6mm rollers. Makes the heel clickers a little more tuner friendly. Read his post in the TECH FAQ section. This the title is Tuning Heel Clickers or something like that.

I also know several people that are using them on a variety of different Yamaha sleds.

its when you use 16mm or 16.5mm youll have problems with belt clearance the 14.5,15,15.6mm are all fine. Youll most likely find that if you use the 14.5mm rollers youll have a hard time hooking up the sled, the low/mid range power is just too explosive and you will just blow off the track instead of going forward.

the larger rollers will allow you to use more weight as it increases the engagement speed and also the shift rpm!

lol, that basically describes every drag race I did last year. Didn't matter what I did with the throttle and the 144 studs made little difference.

Thanks for the initial set up, yamerdown. i ended up with 4.4 in heel, mid empty, tip 3.5. using the green spring @60. took it out for a nice spin.big differance in mid range from my old set up. only seen 100mph on speedo. that was about 1500 feet.havent really gotten to run her for a long distance yet. i am going to get her out tonight and check out the top end. i will keep it posted. :winterrul

Cool. Glad to hear the setup was real close for ya. Did you use the 15mm rollers?
I don't think 100mph is bad in 1500' for a stock viper. Was that on hard pack or bare ice?

Yeah i have the 15mm rollers.it was on a hard pack trail , with about 3" of fresh powder. could feel the track spinning alot, mid range is where i felt the most pull.must have been when i finally got some traction. lol

Set up

I have had better luck with a similar set up but I think it pulls better with a little weight in the middle. I ended up with 4 in the heel. 2.3 middle and 3.4 tip. Red primary spring and 15mm rollers. Secondary is 48/34 dalton w/ red spring at 80. I had the red at 70 but it overshifted all the time. It is only my opinion but I think that with no weight in the middle hole and the green secondary spring you are leaving some acceleration and top speed on the table. Again, just my opinion....every sled is different.

How can you tell if it is overshifting? my rpms are dead on at 8600. even on wot run to wot run it climbs and stays at 8600. i can try the red at 70 and see where that will get me. testing, testing and more testing. LOL

Finally Got To Open Her Up And To My Dissappointment I Am Over Reving To 8900. Should I Take Some Weight Off Of The Tip? Or Add To The Shoulder? Any Help Will Be Great .
