Stock Venture 600 Sled, how fast should it go?

I got a 97 Venture 600. I rarely go flat out but need power and balls to get through slush and other such situations when needed. It seems fine and responsive on the bottom end, taking off and pulls pretty good to 100k/h. It appears to be at its end around 120K/h @ just over 8kRPM on flat snow/ice road (throttled down) were I ran my Polaris TXL 340 (that sled will fly) and a 94 Formula STX 583. Both are scarier and will do better than this with throttle to spare.

So I am just wondering if this is it. The tach was reading around 8 thousand but I have to watch out as the road takes a turn and I see my life passing a that speed. Temperature was approx -5 Celcius (not too cold)

You are over reving a little. I believe that sled should shift out at 7800rpm.
You should see close to 95 to 100mph with a good running 600 tripple.
 
I went through the online manual again yesterday. We have 87 octane ethanol fuel up to 10% in Ontario. According to the manual they call this Gasohol and classify this as Oxygenated fuel. Hmmm so I will flick the switch under the hood and see what if any difference in the Oxygenated mode. B

I know the belt is new and unless the drive clutch had not settled in yet. I did not stay at that speed long. No nerves for it with the potential for someone pulling out of their cottage without looking. This is a TWIN 600 just in case you're thinking of the triples.

Does this 97 Venture have power Valves? If so how would one know if they are working properly?

no power valves on that sled. Clean the clutches and belt with warm sopy water and a scotch brite pad. I am in Sudbury only 4 hours north of you.

Ha, 4hours eh. I agree but to the cottage area south of Dorset, near Canarvon (Hwy 35). To Markham it's a lot further 2.5-3hr drive.

Thanks again. I'll scrubby dub dub them sheaves. But if correct the power is off a bit.
 
like yamyrider said your over rev'en,you want to be around 7800 with that
sled on top,any more and your loosing HP...

i've got the same motor in my XTC,they screm with a little tuning,head gasket mod,clutching,etc...
 
That big 'ol seat is heavy on that, yea you should 90+ easy..

my (stock)XTC on a long pull will get to 100-100+....on the dream meter

Hah, seat heavy yes, so am I. Ha ha...

We'll leave it at that.

PS: Weight equal traction. right? Tones the suspension into action.
 
this is a 2-up right? that means he might be geared down compared to daman. i know as does yammyrider that when my sx500r was geared down it would only hit 80mph wot no matter who was driving with stock clutching or the clutching i put in it. geared it up to the 99 sxr500 specs and it hit 93mph with same clutching. twins are only supposed to rev 7800 at wot so you do have some clutching issues.

what track is on that? i know with the stock yoko (.92) on the sxr it did not get stuck in the slush at 50kph. never did try to stick it mind you. i know with the ripsaw (1.25" lug) i went into a big slush hole at about 30kph and she never even bogged down. of course i got the heck out of there as soon as i saw slush. i think those ventures only had .75 lug on them but i could be mistaken.

yup thats true,forgot about that,plus thats a 136",,yes should have the .75
on it too..

Yeah, there were several shots I had but all taken from the same angle. They were taken on a cell phone camera 2MP. I am heading up this weekend and will get more. OH snow here yesterday 8-12 inches. Not really sure but the biggest snow fall in town in a long time. I'll have to check with up north later. Conditions are improving for the trails at least. Lakes will suck still and likely be some people getting stuck or going through. Not much ice.

it is a .510 track. I have no clue why yami put that crap track on a fairly pricey sled. I would understand if the FC venture had that track, and maybe if the 500 LC twin did too, but that was the top dop yami 2 up in 97.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned its a 600 triple, it is not, It is a twin, good for apparently 97 hp. With an old belt on mine (about 1/4" too thin) it would easily go over 70, but I did not have enough room to go any faster.

I will be taking mine out this weekend for its first real ride, and I will let you know what it does out on the lake.

fwiw, mine has a .92" track now, but other than that, the clutching and motor are stock, so it should not be too different that what it was stock. I basically went over the whole sled, replaced anything that was worn with new stuff.

Sounds good. I don't have any problems with traction and this is my first experience with studs. On ice yeah you still got to be careful and it does slip but it's ice on the trails under the snow.

Let me know who it goes Horkn!! I am going to have a closer look at the clutchs this weekend. The belt is new and being a dealer put it on I would assume they installed the right one. If it's too long that would explain some things as well. My son says I should replace the skis like he did on the Ski-poo I got for him a few years back to fix my steering.
 
You should have no problem hitting over 100mph, I have a 1997 500 vmax and It radar's at 98.5 stock in 1000', just a bunch of testing with gears, clutching and suspension work, only thing that isn't stock is I took off the airbox and installed K&N filter's.
 
My 600 VMax and Viper must be real slugs or are the triples that much slower? On a perfect day said VMax will hit around 90 indicated. My Viper stock would only do a little over 100 indicated. I never saw 100 on my Viper on GPS when it was stock.
 
regardless he still has a slight overrev. clutch faces on the primary might just need to be cleaned to fix that. on the gun though he should at least break 80mph as that motor is stronger than my 500 was.
