need help cleaning powervalves!!!

hey guys

this is my first time owning a powervalve yamaha. i have a 2004 sxviper mountain. i need some tips on how to clean the power valves. mine dont seem dirty but i just want to learn how to do this for the future because i recently bought the sled m a guy and i want to clean everything just incase. so if i take the 4 allen key bolts out of each powervalve, would they come right out? is there something i gotta watch out for like loose parts,pins,etc? i know the procedure on how to clean them i just want to know how care i got to be taking them out. any help would be great!!

Pretty strait forward on the removal...

what i do is first take off your servo cover and turn the servo motor
clockwise till there's allot of slack in the cables,then take out the 4 allen
bolts in the housing,pull back on the housing,should have enough slack in the cable's to be able to slide it off the end of the P/V,set it a side,do the other 2 then, when all the cable's are off then grab the end of the P/V and
pull it out,it may want to come hard,you can use a pair pliers and gently
pull it out..you'll have a guide coller that will be loose,you'll see it..

i do it like that so i don't have to fiddle with the cables and the valves together..

or you can just remove the 4 allen bolt's and take it out all together...

does i have to unhook the cables for the powervalves? can i just take the 4 allen key bolts out and then haul them out ith the powervalve attached? this your talking about for the servo motor, so keep the servo where it is too and just take the cover off and then turn the motor clock-wise? is there any small gears or anything in there that may fall out if i does this? also if i decide to take the cables off of the pv's , what holds the cables in place? would anything fall unexpected when hauling them out? this is my first time cleaning powervalves and i need to learn how to do this for the future.

yes,or you wont be able to clean then good

yes,that will loosen the cable to give you enough slack to slide the cable
off the end of tha valve

they slide in and out a groove in the end of the pv,you'll see how it works when you get there.

when you idle the sled below 900 this SETS THE SERVO, while it's still running with the cover off servo mark the servo in case it moves after you can move it back by hand when you set your gap, hope that explains it for you

step one is telling you what to do,,,and how to do it..
