I've done a lot of searching and found a ton of info, but which would be an easier swap in my viper -- an SCIII or A.C. Skid? I'm currently looking at a 01 ZRT and an 05 REV Skid. I'm pretty much straight on the AC after talking to Sno-XR and seeing his dimensions, but I couldn't find much detailed info on the Doo install. TIA

go for the 05 sc4 or find a edge with pps shocks or a pro x with walker evans. Maxdlx
The only concern that I would have with the SC4, is it was specificaly designed for the rider forward REV. I dont know excactly what was changed, but remember readding up on it when it came out. It maybe as simple as shock valving, not sure, but I know there were changes because the SC10 III didnt perform as well in the REV.
AJ, you had asked about the install of another skid(DOO). Alot of guys simpley take the measurements from the top of the tunnel. I took it a step further and took into consideration actual ride hieght and the height of the front axle. I did this to be sure that I wasnt throwwing off the complete relationship of the 3 points of contact- skis , front of rear skid, and rear of rear skid. If the tunnel you take the skid from sits at a different angle then your viper, the geomotry to your skis will be different. Some of this can be corrected with the limiter straps, but to much adjustment will take your front skid shock out of its ideal sweet spot.

Interesting stuff......too bad you have to put brand X skids in these Vipers. That's where I have a hard time. My buddies that ride the other brands would never let me live it down. LOL!!

I too did some research on this before ending up with an AC skid. I think the rev based sc has the front mount changed and it ends up either in or too close to the steering hoop. If you look at pictures of the two you can see the difference. Atleast that is my memory.

It does suck, but Its well worth it! I have less then $250 into the skid and it rides so much better that Ill take the abuse from my buddies! lol
Sno-xr,
I don't know if they changed anything but they put the SCIII in the ZX chassis as well. I'm leaning towards the AC simply because it seems straight forward. I think the steering post is in they way for the Edge skid as well... I remember someone here having to cut part of the post where it mounts. I'd rather drill a few holes and remount.

I've seen those on tracksusa.com. How do you know which model or sled is a good one to take from or are they all better then the proaction?

Dont know, I was surfing yesterday & seen em. Honestly was hoping to get some replys on them.
Yep, I know they had it in the 02 ZX and then the 03 REV, but went to the SC4 in 04 or 05 to fit the needs of the rider forward chasis.ajviper said:Sno-xr,

Seems like the SC10 III was in 00 and newer, but dont quote me. From what Ive heard from the Doo guys, the III was a deffinite improvement over the II.
If you have access to a ZX chassis with the III to get dimensions from, dont be afraid to pick one up, It would be a great skid to have also.

I am currently looking at an 05 SCIII with 800 miles on it for $299. Like mentioned earlier, my only concern is getting the correct measurements for it.
05 SC10 III, what sled is it out of?

REV 600...actually it's got 1400 miles on it.
Sorry, just checked the doo site, the SC4 didnt come till 06 on production sleds!
Do you know anyone with a REV w/SC10 III that you could compare side by side?

AJ, I have a Viper with a SC10III in it. PM me if you want to hear the long story on it. Not all bad, just mostly operator error. It is very doable.
Here is a link to a thread with some pictures...

I'd get one with Ryde FX instead of Walker Evans. Heard too many horror stories about the Walker Evans on the Pro X2's and XR's.
