Well guys just got home couple hours ago from being out in the hills. the viper had to get towed back to the trailer. saturday the first day of riding not a single problem. On sunday, thats when things changed first it died on the trail with no warning, pulled the cord and fired right up and away we went. second time 20 miles later it died it was sounding really rough so pulled the plugs and #2 cylinder was black cylinders 1 and 3 cardboard color. Pulled the cord and fired right up but still not running right, went about 25 yards and that was it cant even pull the recoil over now.

i have an ATTAC system on it and ive owned the sled for 2 years now cleaned the carbs last year. Any beginning thoughts before i tear it down

i also noticed on sunday before riding i only used about a cup of oil and we had rode about 60 to 75 miles on saturday

a lot of guys have been burning vipers down out there. sounds like something to do with the needles from what i have heard.

temps on saturday were prolly around 25 to 30. sunday a snow storm showed up and dumped alot of snow temps around 5 to 10 with 30 mph wind. the girlfriend was riding it when it died. the fx nytro ran great :D hopefully i can take it apart this week and find some parts to fix it

I also say throw that ATTAC in the garbage that is what I did with mine. I burnt my srx 2 times with that system on my sled.

Nothing will replace pulling plugs and inspecting color/wash,,sounds like
another burn down, pull it appart and post up pic's so we can take a look

how much gas did you burn with that cup of oil?

What is a ATTAC or the Multirange variflow? Assume it helps track plug burning somehow. I am building up an 03 Viper motor this week and will post a question on how to in this section. I am new at this.

the Attac automaticly leans down the mixture for temperature and altitude
the vari-flow does the same thing but is manually operated
how many people have checked plugs & pistons when running Attac's? A guy still needs to monitor it to make sure everything is working fine. It is alot easier than changing jets? and if you're not chamging jets you running fat at times anyway so jet the Attac a little richer IMO

Hmmmmmmmm, Vipers are running lean and burning down...... Why would you buy something that leans it out more?

Guys in my part of the country have been using the variflows since they came out in 98 or 99. I have used mine since 2000 and no problems. Honestly I can say that I know of a tripple yammi that doesnt have one in my area. I ride from 1500' to 10500' and never have to touch a jet. I run egts, and can read plugs and piston wash. On my sled I know what egt temps correllate with safe wash. The thing about the ATTAC is it senses air temp and chances fuel mixture automaticly.... which to me is the scarry part.
I would rather be in charge of fuel mixture vs the little plastic thing under the hood.

i go back and forth in elevation with the variflow my plugs always look perfect. know problems at all. when i was in the bighorns it seemed a little boggy down low but i think that was the pilots. or maybe not clutched perfectly. still ran flawlessly.

cacsrx1 runs the variflow with a 780 and it still works great. thats an a+ system.

i talked to a guy out there last year. his girlfriend was riding the viper all day in the midrange. just so happened that sled had an attack as well. it was running lean in the midrange and burned it down. sled only had 200 miles on it.

Low Oil Usage!!!!

A cup of oil in 60 miles, sounds like the problem right there. I bet the crank rod bearing is siezed due to an oiling problem. Did you change oil brands,or run it out of oil and not rebleed it? When you did the carbs you might of accidentilly done something to the oil controll cable. Good Luck.

Thats what i was trying to get out of him but he didn't post back, a cup is 8oz if used 5-6 gals in that 60 miles, thats like in the area of 80-100:1,,way to lean.

sorry man! i prolly used about 4 to 5 gallons on saturday. im thinking bearing also. trying to get sometime to take it a part this would be a first time ive had a problem with the oil portion no major work has been done except power valve cleaning earlier this year

Ok no problem, yea that would be lean on the oil for sure, would that be
enough to take her out?, maybe, maybe not, there is a line feeding the crank so hard to say for sure....

4 gals wouldn't be toooo bad thats 64:1,,but if you used more like 5+ thats
getting to 80ish:1,not so good IMO...
