Everything under the hood is bone stock. Per the advice of another member, I purchased 54/42 helix. I was under the impression that just this helix alone (everything else stock) would improve overall performance. While the low end seems to be really nice, I've noticed my rpms are hitting around 8800. I've set my twist at 60. Without getting into all kind of different setups, what can I do to get the rpms down? 50 twist? Any other opinions on this setup? Downsides?

Or change primary springs....But a lot of people like that 51/43 helix(rx-1) and dn8--20 loaded....That what I would run personally! The tech page shows a 54/44 with stock weights loaded, or a 52/42 with everything stock.

yup....

primary,
w-w-w
8DN-20's loaded with 4.5's

secondary,
51/43 helix
red spring at 70-80 deg.

Man, talk about agonizing. I feel as though I could buy a dozon different helixs and springs and still not sure what is best. Too many different opinions. Just wish there was a proven setup that everyone would agree with. The more I search, the more confused I get on what setup to go with. If I went with every opinion, I'd be out a whole lot of cash.

I originally tried the simplest suggestion (54/42 everything else stock). Now, everyone is suggesting other setups with no support for the 54/42. I just went bald.

Your cheapest option would be to add tip weight...With that said, there are a ton of guys on here that run that 8dn-20 setup that we just gave you above. I don't know what you paid for that helix but you should be able to swap with a 51/43 floating around....Then all you have to do is buy a www primary for like 15 bucks and add two rivets and you are set:) I know that is easy for me to say...LOL There are a lot of guys running that setup and I think it is for a reason...

Start looking below peoples avy's and see what you come up with...make sure the sleds are not ported or something though!!!

daman, instead of red spring, should be using green spring in secondary.Tomorrow morning I am going to set up my clutch with the 8DN-20 with 5.5g in each hole and 51/43 helix with green spring wrapped to 70 or 80.

let me know the result i'm running heel clicker too this year didnt have the chance to try the top speed

ah............. and the confusion starts again! Help me out here Tony. Do I want red or green spring? 4.5 or 5.5g? Just when I think I'm all set, here comes another wrench.

what in Gods name do all those numbers mean, i wouldn't mind doing stuff with my clutches, but first need to know what i'd gain out of it....... the only two things that i don't get on any snowmobile, Rear suspension, and Clutches..... easy concept, yet complex....

Daman if i ran your set up in my clutches what would i gain out if it, and how much does all that cost?

Hey yamidude, I was in your position about 2 months ago:) Buy Olav's aaens clutching book....read it a few times and clutching will all come together. The quest for better clutching will begin. As far as the, rear suspension......download the suspension tuning video in the tech section. You will be all set. As far as a gain, you are able to adjust the motors shift curves to your liking. All of this stuff will effect how she pulls on the trails or on the lake:) You will gain faster up shift or pull and faster back shift or snap!

Zach....there are many ways to skin a cat and many ways to clutch your machine. What is best for your machine maybe a little different then the guy beside you. There are proven set ups with HC, HH, Hauk weights, 8DN20 and so on. What do you want to achieve, what would you be happy with and how much do you want to fine tune.

Yamiyrider you running the gun at Rocky's this weekend??? We will be out with 2 sleds on Sunday, may make an appearance on Sat. aswell but won't have much time as my son has a hockey game at 3 in Chemy. Do you happen to know anyone that may have some Polaris gearing? I am looking for 13 wide Polaris gears 24/ 37 or around that ratio..

Dan J.
