the block appears longer but i think the crank is the same length, still haven't look at the cases for the numbers. The bearing are different and we don't need cases his cases are fine its just a matter of pressing the bearings from one of the 2 cranks we have onto this one if they are identical otherwise.

the case number will tell ya what crank you have...

That is definately a 97-98 twin case, it does not have the seperate water pump/recoil housing. The cases are different, as well as the crank.

From what i found out that case could be a 500 or 600(were the same) '97braindead1684 said:8cr0001 y1 is the case no
to '01 v-Max,,if we knew what cc it was that would narrow down the years
because they only made the 600 3 years, '97-'99,,the 500 went a few more
years till '01..
so yea it's the newer vm case...

Sorry I'm late to view this post. Ya that looks an awful lot like the case of an '97+ motor. Spent a lot of time looking at that case.
Sorry for it not working out the way you had planned.
Dave, Why is the bottom of you '94 block so shiny?

the main question is if the crank will work? it looks very similar to the 94-96 with the exception of the bearings?

Because i sanded it down smooth then primed, painted, and clear coated the whole block.

Except the jugs....they were glass bead blasted.
