I just wanted to say thanks to anyone who posted info on how to make a seat riser for the Yamaha Viper. This is simple to make upgrade along with a 2 inch handlebar riser changed my sled into a rough trail leader. My buddies ride the other snowmobile brands and I let them jump on and try it out. It was pretty tough to get them off of it. The only thing I did different to the riser that I made was using thicker plywood and instead of hard foam, I cut up an old snowmobile seat and used soft foam to stuff inside. My first time on it I went over 200 miles with no pains in my legs or back. Thanks again!!

Hey guys here's some eye candy. Sorry I didn't take any pics while I was making it. I didn't know if was going to work out. Its just plywood, foam and black seat material from an old seat. It measures 2.5 inch in the front and 3.5 in the rear. It actually makes my seat ride on top the tank if you choose to mount it where I did. I'm glad I did. It did looked weird with the gap between the seat and the tank so I bought a little storage/map pouch, slapped it on, and it looks great! Most comfortable riding position I have ever had.

did u just mount the seat on top of the spacer? how does all that mount up? I am interested in putting a riser on but I dont understand how you mount it? Is that 2 inches the full length of the seat or just the back?

I have an Excell seat riser and a 2" straight and a 3.5" pivoting riser. It is great. I standup for hours at a time without having to slouch. I love my sled...The Mono-shock really helps too!

Looks great! I made one too last year and love it. I agree my knees feel much better and it so much more fun to ride.

This is how I did mine but I am not an expert and you could make this a hundred different ways and it will still make your Viper ride better than stock. I screwed the 2x3 at the front and left the back only held together by the seat vinyl so it would give the seat more cushion. You will have to figure out a way to keep the bolts from spinning inside the seat. I welded washers on the bolts and screwed them to the plywood.

I hear you stevie... I recently made a seat riser for my viper and it's like a new sled. I currently have a 2" handlebar riser, but plan to switch it out with a 3.5" Rox pivot riser. Mine is approx 2" in the front and 3.25" in the rear. I added a steel strap in the front so that the seat would install like it's designed to. A few others on here gave me the idea of making the steel strap and bolt it directly to the two bolts holding the tank.

Here are a few pics. In short, I made mine with pink board, peg board, wrapped the edging with thin armaflex tape, waterproofed it with 4mil plastic and then finished it with black vinyl. I orig had planned on using just pink board to keep the weight down, but i couldn't come up with a good way to protect it without adding a solid material.

This may sound crazy but I was worried about the weight too. I am 205 pounds and the riser I made is very heavy, but it almost makes the stock pro action suspension work better. I have heard of guys weighing well over 250 say how nice their stock rear suspension rides. I always thought mine was very stiff until I added the riser.

yeah mine ended up weighing around 7lbs. If I could have figured out a way to wrap the vinyl directly to the pink board, it would have been about 2-3lbs.

How does adding height to your seat make the rear suspension work better? Seems to me it would just force you to ride farther forward, seeing as the back of the seat is higher!

It doesn't... the ride is ergonomically better. ;)! Seriously, the sled feels sooo much better and should have been setup this way from the factory, IMO.

I was just saying that it seems the the stock pro action suspension on the Viper seems to need a heavy rider on it to really be comfortable. Now that I have the extra weight of the riser, the suspension isn't so harsh to ride and its awesome that I have the choice of riding right up by the bars or standing up on really serious bumps and then sliding back on the straights. Both postions are very comfortable.
