alright I need honest help! New Pics added!!

I have been thinking of getting a new sled for awhile. I have looked at alot of yamahas and dont want to yet venture to the fourstroke route, and there isnt any other choice there... I am kinda interested in a viper but I want a different chassis. All my buddies ride skidoo revs and I ride one of my buddies from time to time. I like it but dont want to trade the yami for one. So long story short this past week his father went and bought a new rev xp 800R. He owns a 2005 800ho 136" renegade with 3k on it. They offered him 3500 for trade he told the guy to suck it and hes selling it now for 5k, book is like 5500. I rode it the other day for about 200miles and love it, BUT I dont at all want to give up my sled for one. So after talking to his dad he said he would sell it to me for 4000 if I want it. It's in immacculate shape especially the motor, and he rides like an old fart so it wasnt ever beat on. So Im thinking buying his for the master sled and keeping my yami for my girlfreind and a second for me. What do you guys think, am I asking for trouble?
I dont know what my problem is with new yamis but I dont really feel for them. I love the older ones to death but I already have one.. I'm scared to make the decision.. any serious thoughts would be great. Heres pics of the rev 800. Just for the hell of it!

I love my viper. I bought a 2004 new left over last yr. I bought a 2004 Rev for my second sled.......ummmmmm I mean for my wife. If the trails are whopped your back will thank you for riding the rev. I'm going to put a rev skid into my viper that's how good it ride IMO. The Rev fires up first pull evrytime so my wife like it b/c she can start it. I look at it like I have the best of both worlds. A yami and a Doo

I dunno, I like Rev's a lot.

the reason the rev works so well in rutted up trails is that your feet are more under you, and your body can take the bigger bumps better since your legs act like big old shocks.

Simply throwing a rear suspension off of a REV won't quite have the same effect. IIRC, early revs had SC10's just a new version (3) for the rev chassis.

have you tried the new FX nytro? for me it is pure bliss. It is light (for a 4 stroke) nimble and tourqey. but then a nytro is 2x what you can get the rev for.

my advice is....
If you like it, buy it. don't have any regrets.

You basically described the exact reason I like the rev. The trails are always beat around here even on a good day. All my freinds ride revs and I cant even keep up, unless I like severe pain! But I LOVE MY YAMI!! I won't give my sled up except for a viper. My biggest thing right now is if I upgrade to a viper to me it aint much different then the sled I'm on now and it isnt worth it to me. I mean exact same chassis, color. Now motor is different but to me chassis is most important right now.
what kind of rev do you have.. what size motor?

Look here better deal all around. Honestly, once you ride the 4 stroke you will be hooked. Maxdlx

I dont think I would be hooked thats my thing. I like everything about two strokes that every one else seems to hate. The smell, the sound, the power band etc. I love my sled most for its two stroke, guess I'm old school.. But as for the sled you posted for sale I would though have to say for that price
if it wasnt waaaaayyyyyyy too far away it would be in my truck right now, lol! Thanks for showing me!

FX nytro? You should know how I feel about brand new sled prices from the debate you and me had on a recent 2009 sled thread, lol!! I dont care if its god I wont by a new sled unless is 5k or under.

If you rode the sled and like it why not? you seem to know past owner and how well he took care of it. Its your choice and if anything goes wrong you still have another good sled to ride.I bought a rx1 with a expert x for 3,000 but I don't ride like you do??? but it was a deal and I took it. If it's a good deal why not.

Just a fair warning. All my friends ride revs and they are notorious for puking motors. Everything else seems good and reliable except the motors. They should pack 3 sets of rings with every sled they sell. How you ride doesnt seem to matter either. My buddies dad bought a brand new leftover this year and he's no speed demon and its on its 2nd motor and that new motor puked the rings already.

Sled

When crusing the nasty trails, there is nothing better than a MONO SHOCK. When riding the nasty stuff fast, go for the improved torsion spring setup or ride a BOARD !

I agree,I had a 06 Apex GT and sold it after one season. I didn't like the extra wieght, and the anoying sounds it made going down the trail. I also didn't like how soft of a ride the mono-shock had and all the trips to the dealer to get 4 broken shock wires fixed and 2 blown shocks. My wife bought a 08 XP 600 sdi and loves it to death, made here alot better rider, and I can't find one thing I don't love about it!

Oh,just buy the Rev you will love it!!

When the time comes to replace my 2002 SX600R, I'll be getting a Rev XP. I see no reason to get a newer Yamaha like a Viper, with a similar suspension/chassis. I do not want a four stroke at all!! Most likely will never own a Yamaha snowmobile again.

That is something I am well aware of and it actaully my ONLY concern with buying a doo. All the people I know that ride them though never have blown a motor in one even with very high miles. But with my luck it would be mine that did.

I feel the same way you do EXCEPT.. there will ALWAYS be some sort of yamaha sled in my garage! I love mine now, just want another style sled too.

I love my mono equipped viper, thats always an option for you too :)

I've read your write up on the switch and it has interested me. I havent found a mono skid worth it anywhere though. Plus I need a second sled still.

until they all make 4 strokes only.... remember 2 stroke bikes?? ahh, THOSE were the days :) now we have to suffer with light powerful bikes that go a LONG time without the need to rebuild. oh the horror of it all ;) I like my 2 stroke, but to say I would never have a 4s is hard to do :)

I know. I don't consider that a debate at all, merely opinions.

But your opinion might change if you rode a new fx Nytro:)

I have never ridden a newer skidoo so I can't comment on there ride...But I don't think there is a manufacture out there that has the fit and finish of a yami...let a lone the reliability...If I was you I would look to a newer viper and switch out the rear skid. There is a lot of m-10's and other skids floating around for a real reasonable price. As for the newer 4 strokes...I haven't been on one that I don't like...there is a vector that is in the other side that is over 30000 miles and he is still riding it, and he is averaging 18-20 mpg. But if 2 strokes are your thing..a viper with a new skid is a great sled!!!

I said the same thing about the new four strokes- "i'll never own one". i had the chance to go on the yamaha dealer ride a few weeks ago in minoqua and it changed my mind. i rode a few of them in the past around the dealership and wasnt impressed but get one out on the trails and its a whole different animal. we got to take all the 07 sleds and the new nytro xtx for a spin and once i got to know the new platform i loved it. i guess all im trying to say is dont knock it til ya try it- i mean really try it. many dealers have demos and yamaha puts together several demo rides throughout the winter. check em out!
