Also most 2008 owners swapped out the stock skis in lue of something better. The skis on all the new Yammies have been a major gripe and for some reason Yamaha doesn't want to change them. Some think it's because of the situation Doo had a while back with the Pilots. (lawsuits) The Nytro beat the 800R on top? Wow, now I rode Pat's demo in Greenland, MI back in Feb. The holeshot was awesome and top end was respectable, but I didn't know it would out duel the 800R on top. I know the 800 Doo's if setup right are fast. The Apexes are still faster up top than the Nytro, but it takes a while to get by that wicked holeshot. For now the stock top end machine still looks like the Apex. The new turbo Cat's boost may be turned down a bit from the factory and I look for the tinkerers to get some good numbers from it next year. But for what it's worth ,the Apex is still an awesome machine for the trail cruisers and straighliners for not having a turbo or charger and being rated modestly at 150HP.
No The 800 R easily whooped the nytro with top end. I meant to say it that but just realized after rereading it sounded different. I dont quite understand why yamaha seems so scared to change those damn skis.. everyone I read about hates them. I think stuff like that is stupid when doo builds such a good handling trail sled. It seems they both have alot they need to get together.. doo being longevity/quality, yamaha being better handling sleds to meet those motors and the riders.

Yes that sounds more like it. A friend of mine owns a 2006 Apex GT that had 5000 miles on it before the season that is studded and clutched. His brother owns the new 800R, clutched and studded. Whoever gets the holeshot wins.....it's that close. He figures the Apex will win on a LONG lake, but hasn't gotten to try that yet.

I love yamaha, but I gotta say watching a campany that still builds 2 strokes and can stay with and beat a 150hp 4 stroke is just amazing to me, with all the emissions standards they had to meet. Where not talking the old days of emissions for an srx or something. I dont care how reliable they are thats sweet!

I am not complaining or nitpicking about the lineup. When the time comes that I move to 4 stroke, I think it would be nice to not have to worry about rejetting for elevation. It seems a nice match to have EFI with a 4 stroke sled. When I got my viper stuck, it made me wonder what a 4 stroke would have felt like in that predicament as well. Right now I am happy with what I have and am happy for all those that love their 4 strokes. It is all good as long as we are having a great time riding and having fun with friends.
