Just wanted to let you all know something about shipping since alot of buying and selling goes on on here. I Purchased tow mirrors for my truck from a member on a ford forum. He sent them to me UPS, and the box was damaged badly while being shipped. Broke the drivers mirror but not the passengers. I put in a claim to UPS to get it resolved. They picked it up from my work to do a claim process check and determine what was going to happen with the claim and told me I would either get the package back or get a check instead and they would contact me either way. They were supposed to contact me to notify me the status before it was sent out/paid for etc. Somehow they never notified anyone, and shipped it straight back to the shipping company the seller used to originally send them out to me.
I called UPS last night and UPS told me that there was a check being cut as the item was definitely found to be damaged during shipping and they would call me today. I got know call..again. I call ups again tonight to verify as I was getting worried about this now. They then said the claim was actually denied, and no check was to be sent anywhere. They said they were sorry for miss information, and the package has been returned to the shipper. They told me the package should have been returned to me but somehow was returned to shipper, but they are not at all liable for the package now because it's now in the shippers hands and is now the shippers responsibility. Then they said even if a check were to be cut it had to be cut to the original shipping company, and then to the original seller and it would be his/her responsibility to pay me. Totally opposite of what they said in the beginning, I have emails to prove it.
So basically they damaged the product, lied at least twice. Never contacted me. Sent the package to the wrong person. Acknowledged they broke it, but because they sent it to the wrong person they were no longer liable for the package or payment or replacement. So if they took my product and sent it back to the seller with a check too then he obviously is not legally liable to give me anything, and honestly who the hell would.. it was ups's screw up to ship it to him, and my choice to give it back to ups with miss information.
So i now paid for a product, had it damaged during shipping. The company that damaged the product sent it to the wrong person, and now all I get to enjoy is the fact that they said this is all standard procedure and they are sorry.. Sounds f-ed up to me.. I don't know what to do now.

Confused yet cause I sure am..

if the glass was all that was broken, you could have went to an auto glass store they could have gotten you a "redi-cut" glass for the mirror for less than 15.00. might have allieviated all of the above. ski

I had insurance on it.. Glass was fine. It was the plastic mounting plate that completely broke off. It was not fixable according to the ford dealer.
My biggest thing is if that is their "standard procedure" then what is in place to protect the receiver and how is any of that not their liability?
Plus how can they not be liable for a package they broke, and then sent to the wrong person??

I wasnt even going to claim it, the ups driver for my business talked me into it and ups originally told me they would view it first, send it back to me and call me from there with the decision..

the shipper is who ups is doing business with because it is prepaid, that is why they send the refunds and deal with the shipper. when you have an issue like this you should work with ups and the shipper to get a resolution. not backing ups at all, just explaining the processes. when i ship stuff i send it usps. ski

I shipped a car stereo UPS once and it arrived to the guy broken. Being the shipper I had to make the claim and coordinate with the buyer to return it to UPS. In the end I got the stereo back and a check then had to refund the buyer. So as the buyer you are definitely at risk to get screwed if the thing breaks. It definitely pays to have a trustworthy seller.

I deal with UPS, and Fedex a lot for work.

I have only once had an issue of a lost item, and UPS did rectify the issue by cutting my company a check. It did however take a while to get the 30 dollars. Luckily it was an off the shelf item, and not a one off item.

I do have email proof. That is my biggest problem. I called them twice and emailed the claims department, and three times was told completey the opposite of what they now say is procedure.. That is my problem and why I am pissed.

I absolutely HATE UPS....with a passion

Latest BS involves them sending me a threatening letter about not paying duty and brokerage charges, but I have an invoice from their shipping partner where I picked up the package, with a carbon of the credit card receipt still attached.

I called them and said you can send all the letters you want, but Id talk to your shipping partner. I also laughed because I told them I have the receipt to show this as well.

They're like, well, can you mail us that invoice?, and I told them to FUK themselves...whats to stop you from "losing" this invoice? You cant even keep your own records straight, and now Im going to send you the only evidence I have?? Yeah, OK!!

They're brutal at best, and when coming from USA to CANADA, its even worse

can't believe the things I am hearing and it is good you guys bring it up.I personally don't like to deal with UPS also, they really hit me with extra charges.I find FedEx a little better, but I try and get things shipped USPS first and I'll wait a little bit longer for the parcal.Imagine a delivery company shipping to you, they damage the parcel and take no resposibilty for it..then who needs them.Is this their policy or what to piss customers off..I guess so and that's why I don't deal with them.If everyone would ignore them, maybe they would go away for good.#$%&*

USPS is the only way to go, for Canadians anyways...yes we wait a bit more, but its worth it

Ive never had a complaint against USPS, probably cuz its government regulated

Only had i issue with USPS.Once ordered 3-rollers for the clutch, when I got the pkg there was only one in there.Sender didn't reimburse me or find out what happened. Was a member on this sight to.I was a little pissed to say the least.

sounds more like the member screwed you then usps doing anything, that sucks though..

I guess I'm not the only one that thinks ups is bullshit.. the guy I bought them from is pissed really bad too, we are both trying to figure this out.. both of us are more pissed and confused about the principle of the whole thing then anything.

actually the pkg was opened or something and then re-taped.2 rollers probably fell out on the floor on the the delivery truck.Should of been a a payment issued for loss of items, but the follow up by seller was not done.

had an engine shipped thru FedEx from Idaho to Winnipeg. It made it,but the crate was almost ready to fall apart.Lucky the motor didn't fall out, especially the way they wheeled it out of the truck on the wrong end, when its marked on crate which side is up.If I would of gone thru UPS,would that engine have made it here in 1 piece or several pieces with no re-course for damage.I wander,I really wander. This was a snowmobile engine by the way.

Canada Customs like to open packeges that cross the border.Maybe one of those guys needed some rollers.

Maxout1- the shipper should be involved here too. Contact them and tell them about it. If you can't get it settled contact one of the consumer help programs like they have on the radio. I don't know if they accept calls from Canada, but the Clark Howard show is a good one. You will find a phone number with a web search. He likes problems like yours and likes to go up against big companies. Otherwise I am sure there are similar programs in Canada.

well I dont live in canada so that wont be a problem. As far as the shipper goes he knows as much as I do. He is very pissed at ups and he might even sue them himself.. they are messing with two people that are probably going to sue them in small claims.
