well i'm planning on buying a cbr600rr from 2003 or newer..... saving my money up for next spring...... was told they are great bikes, I was considering the R6 but i was told that their powerband is way to high in the Rpm for normal driving, basically it doesn't have the low or mid range power that the cbr has.... i'm thinkin cbr for my final choice.... plus their resale is great.... if i buy used for 6 grand and want to sell it i was told it could sell for the same price....

Any thoughts from owners?
 
While I do not personally own a cbr6rr I know a ton of guys that do.

They are really nice bikes, and even at 6'4" and 240lbs, I fit on them quite well.


I would buy one as a track bike with no hesitation. They are nearly indestructable, handle well, and as you know, parts are easily available, both OEM and aftermarket.

The R6 is a very nice bike as well, and I have ridden a fairly modded 03 r6 enough to say that they absolutely need a steering damper, even if left stock. I am talking about the "old" r6, now the r6S, and not the new r6. These bikes are very nice as well, but are more cramped for me, and it IS true, that they don't have the tq the cbr does in the midrange.

yeah, if kept clean any of these bikes keep resale pretty good. I would say an 03 cbr600rr would go for 5k, and not 6. if you go to an 05-06 600rr, then maybe 6k. these you could buy OTD for 7k or so, so even losing 2k in 5 years is not bad at all.

2007 & 2008 CBR600RR is where its at. Best all around 600 "cruising" sport bike you can get right now. New engine overhaul gave it a lot more usable powerband throughout the midrange, STANDARD electronic steering damper has said to work remarkably well, they lightened it up redesigned the frame. One sweet package and most of all its very comfortable to sit on. Im planning on picking one up in a few months, I got quoted at $9000 OTD here for a 2008 brand new
 
The cbr 600 is nice but why not get a liter bike if its the same money.There is a dealer here in ny selling brand new yamaha R1's for 8900.00.

It sounds like this is his first bike.

If I would have a literbike as my first bike I probably would not be here today.

and even as a 1st bike, these hot 600s are a lot of bike.

the guy with the modded 03 r6 , that was his first bike of any kind witha motor, and luckily he didn't end up on the ground yet, esp that first season.


If you want a bike with more tq than a 600, get a v twin.

SV650S's are awesome first bikes, and sound better than any I4 can.

if you want a bit more power, get a triumph daytona 675. or a gsxr750.

I would not mind a liter bike, but the thing that scares me away being 19 years old, is the insurance..... 1000cc bikes being considered supersports in the insurance world...... It will be a good second bike when i;m 25 and my rates will be lower, until then i'll ride a 600..... Besides from what i hear, with the 1000 cc bikes, you never will get the full potential out of them on the roads, they are track bikes.... so why not stick with the 600 right? i mean, even that has more power then needed on the roads.... That has potential that may not be met on the roads unless your used to driving busas or zx 14's.

Horkn, I'm doing alot of Looking for bikes, but dont' plan on purchasing until about this time next year..... when i have the cash in hand to pay it all off so i don't have to worry about monthly payments let alone full coverage.... although, if i pay it off 6 or 7 grand in hand, i may consider full coverage for my investment. we will definitly hook up for a ride when the time comes, until then i will be riding my sled next winter, so theres a ride in it self...

i have 4 buddies that have sport bikes, so it would be nice to have another in the group too, Keep me posted.

First off the cbr is a great bike. I bought a R6 new in 03, my friends bought new ZX6RRs and CBR RRs. We raced (low gear roll ons up to 140MPH or so) many times, I never lost.... once, and I was 210lbs, they were 180-190. Whoever to you they didnt have any midrange doesnt know what they were talking about. Mine would powerwheelie at 5500rpm no problem. The newer R6, 2006 or 2007 and up might be a different story, I have never rode one. Buy what ever is most comfortable and fits you frame.... it wont be a CBR....they have the worst seat known to man.
 
well, i'm not exactly Set on the cbr, it is defintly an option, i wouldn't mind the gsx-r750, How are the suzukis reliablity wise? Are all the bike manufactures pretty good with reliabilty? i heard the suzukis are the faster of all the bikes.... any down falls to the 750 with reliability issues, pow, mid, high range tq, hp issues?
 
is the 750 a huge step up from the 600's? Never ridden a street bike before, only dirt bikes... but i can learn, i am getting into a school for my license, and i will get my temps from the dmv, and will learn on my buddies 94 600.....

I know how to shift....... although I'd have to get used to when to shift properly and when to down shift to use it as a "brake saver" alot of things come natural to me.... so it wont be so bad....
 
If this is your first bike you dont need more than a 600. You can have PLENTY of fun on a 600, sometimes I wish I still had mine. By the way dont listen to horkn ...he's Vtwin biased, nothing sounds as good as a 600 at 15500+ rpms unless its an R1 at 13750. :hide:

the 03 r6 doesn't have the midrange of the cbr600rr of the same vintage.

that said, all 600's just dont have the power in the midrange that I require.

the 03 I have ridden had a full micron serpent race sytem, and a bunch of other goodies, with a power commander 3usb that I made a map for, and it always had the most hp and tq of any bolt on'ed 03 -04 r6. Matter of fact the only r6 in those years that had more power was a race bike that was completely reworked and nothing internal was stock. this was on adynojet250 (2 of them fwiw) on dyno shoot out days. to me the r6, and really any 600, just doesnt have the tq I need. 109 rwhp on an eddy current exhaust analyzer dynojet 250 dyno was the number it got. That full modded race 03 r6 got 115, but for the $$ he had into it, you could have almost bought another stock r6 at the time.

5500rpm will not power wheelie a 600 unless you are in first and or yank the hell out of it.

but yeah, the stock seats on all the 03-06 cbr600rrs were pretty much death. A corbin helps quite a bit. But for me I would want one for a track biike where you ride only 20 minutes of the 60 minutes of an hour. A simple 1/4" foam pad on a race tail works for track days, and most races as well. But street riding will show how bad a seat is really fast.

The current style r6 isnt drastically different power wise vs the old r6, or r6s IMHO.

LOL.

I like my I-4's as well, but the sound of the full yosh on my tl ( or any piped twin) is something everone is jealous of. hide behind the couch all you want, but I won't hear you with my pipes....;)

but yeah, these 600s are a LOT of bike for a newb.

I really think that the US should have graduated displacement rule like the europeans do. it would save us on insurance, but I can't complain at 180 a year for my 1000cc bike, or any literbike, for full insurance. Being over 30 really helps in that department.

Is it not smart to get a gixxer 750 for my first bike? its not like i'm gonna go balls to the walls when i first get it..... i'm gonna take it easy and learn the bike..... then ease my way up as my ability calls for.....

Besides i wouldn't get a v-twin, i like the Inline 4 cyl. sport bikes,

How much different is the 750 over the 600's? i'm 6'0 and about 235lbs, Will the cbr600rr notice that at all top end wise?

My path of thinking is... being the heavier of the riding buddies, i think i'd need a bigger bike to keep up, but if i hop on a 600 will it accel and keep going just as if my 180 lbs buddy was on it?

Idk i really like the looks the gsxr 750, as i do the cbr's (hell they all look great).... if i use common sense and start off slow on it, i shouldn't be so bad.... you think? plus i'd hold on to the bike for as long as i can.....

yeah, the 750 gsxr is a HUGE step up from a 600.

At least you have dirt bike experience, that is where I came from myself, and IMHO, all good riders can understand fast riding better since the rear wheel on a dirt bike is almsot never fully hooked up. So the first few times your rear slips of spins, you don't freak out.

HMMM.... my R6 must have been a freak then, to wheelie in 1st. A v-twin doesnt have the horsepower that I require...but if I had to ride on it would be an RC-51 with a full Sato system...I do love that sound.

you sound like a smart kid, and that is good.

too many young kids do give 'er hell and end up crashed.

Don't discount the twins, there is a reason Ducs and aprilias and now KTM;s are doing well. they have a very tractable power band that makes you think you are not rif=ding as fast as you really are, plus they have better wet traction.

Plus, the sound, it is intoxicating, really. Although a piped triple (triumph) does sound sweet in different ways.

naw, the fact that you are about my size won't really affect anything but absolute top speed, which won't happen on the street anyway right? ;)


learn this summer, then buy what you want. at that point a 750 Might be just right, esp since you want to keep it for a while.

You want sound?? Throw on a carbon fiber D+D slip on.I had one on my 03 R1 and you could hear me coming from 5 blocks away.
