Last number I know of was 98hp at Dynotech
The pipes had to have about 1inch added to the necks to be able to turn 10,000 RPMS and make that 103 mark. That's why the factory ssr's ran so much better. They changed the pipes so they would have that advantage on the other ssr's that dealers bought. Nice guys!!! Did anyone ever see the factory sleds? They where a lot different the the normal ones that where sold. Dean-o

It was back in the 80's. From what I remember it was 98hp @ 9800rpm. Don't know what condition the motor was in (new rings, pistons, old??). I seen that Jim had one on the dyno and asked him what the numbers are.

Mine was one of Randy Johnsons. But it was only used for speed runs, no oval racing.

Really? Where did you get it? Mine was Randy Johnson's and he did oval it. Got a 3rd or 4th at the World Series or something. Dynotech probably would have only got about 90 out of a '77 on his dyno. SSR's are a lot stronger than a 77. Stock pipes did suck tho.toydoc said:Mine was one of Randy Johnsons. But it was only used for speed runs, no oval racing.

DYNOFUN, COM ON !!!!! 77 SRX,s HAD MORE THAN 90 HP, YOU KNOW THAT!!!!! ANYWAYS TOYDOC I DO REMEMBER SEEING THAT SSR ON JIMS WALL OF FAME (pictures) AT THE DYNO. CAN,T REMEMBER WHO OWNED IT THOUGH. SO YOUR RIGHT, HE DID DYNO ONE. AGAIN 94 MAX DYNOED HIS 77 SRX AND MADE 98HP. AND THIS 77 WAS 100% STOCK. (airbox, stock muffler, .40 carbs) !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

Nah Tony, I was just saying that if he only got 98 from an SSR he probably would have a low reading from a 77 too. They are easy 8-10 HP apart.YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:DYNOFUN, COM ON !!!!! 77 SRX,s HAD MORE THAN 90 HP, YOU KNOW THAT!!!!! On most tuned pipes, a longer and smaller diameter stinger would give you more top end, a shorter and larger diameter stinger would gove you more mid range.
The factory always had totally different pipes!

The factory lenghtened the headers one inch. I tested these pipes and they worked at 10,200 rpms. When they where shorter they didn't work. That's why the factory ssr's ran and the other ones didn't. I know if you run shorter or longer stingers that will make changes also, but the headers or should I say the necks on the pipes where the key to making these SSR pipes work. Dynofun you should try it. Do you have a dyno handy? Dean-o

Yep! And that thinking is backwards. That is why I asked. My SSR made power at 10,000 and a lot of it. I thought the pipes were stock but may not have been. I didn't have any reason to look since the sled was supposed to make power at 10,000 stock. Knowing it was a factory racer, they could have been modded but it would have been to shorten head pipe, not lengthen it. The reason I can see that they could have been wrong from the factory is because I bought a brand new set right from Yamaha back then. I put them on a '77 SRX ( before I had my SSR) thinking that would be the thing to do. The sled seemed flat and didn't seem to make any power. My thinking was that of course it couldn't be the pipes. I was jetted wrong or clutched wrong or something. You know how that goes, especially when a season goes by so fast. Well low and behold some dozen years later (89-90)I had the engine on the dyno to see what we had. She would make power at 9,000 RPM's and not much. DRP and I looked at each other with an instant WTF? It only took him about 1 minute to have those pipes off and literally in the trash can! We put on a set of his pipes (Like Aaens) and bingo! 115.6 HP at 10,200 RPM! I was a happy boy! Of course I took those collector items back out of the trash but they are really only good for a stock sled to be complete. I wonder if other SSR's out there have a set of pipes on them that don't make power... I hope some of you out there find this as interesting as I did.deanosmod said:The factory lenghtened the headers one inch. I tested these pipes and they worked at 10,200 rpms. Dyno, Great Storie And Great Info. Remeber The Pipe Mod On The 77 Srx That I Believe Aaen Worked With Yamaha With And Actually Made A Tech Race Update To Stingers And Shorted Necks. How Close Was This A Copie Off The Moded Ssr Pipe. They Both Worked Up To 10,200.

Actually Tony, Yamaha not only had the most technologically advanced engine program in Japan at that time, but they had 2 Schenk eddie current dynos stateside and came up with all of it on their own. I was told Aaen copied the Yam mod pipe and marketed them. They both work great!YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:Dyno, Great Storie And Great Info. Now Dave delaughter makes his new(2years now) 77 srx mod pipes that make even more power. I have them on my 77 grass/show sled. They really work great. They remind me of the crankshops 440 pipes. Big volume pipes. Dean-o

Does anyone here knows why the 2 carbs on these SSR are jetted differently.
I bought a 77 Srx last week and these HO carbs are on the motor .
