hi guys,new here.jist picked up a srx to build up.heres the question.i have access to the original 440,a vmax 540 and a exciter ii 580.which is gonna give me the most bang.i see the mounts r different,has anybody done the swaps of the 540 and 580 and what problems were there.i want to keep the hood clean not cut up.any help would be appreciated.thanks tom
 
Get your self a 77 motor and some light weight parts. A nice 76 suspension and cleated track would work. That 80 could work with the right parts. Scrape the heavy crap. Stock,seat,dash,suspension/track,pipes. Good luck. I'll sell ya my 77 grass/show sled. It makes 118 with Dave Delaughters new pipes. $6000. Dean-o
 
thanks deano but im just building a play sled nothing to race on a circuit.it is gonna get my ole wahl susp in it.the motor available is a 570 exciter if that makes any diff.dont know yammies very well so thats the reason for all the dumb questions.looking for something that will be trail ported,piped with silencers.
 
IMO, I have done lots to both the 440 and 570. The 440 will give you just as much hp as the 570 mod for mod. A cheap way for more power would be a Vmax 600 twin because the mods work better and make more hp.
 
is this using the 1980 440?who would u recommend with the porting?please remember this will be using some type of silenced exhaust,at minimum bolt on silencers.what would be an expected hp.does anybody have a good set of cylinders ready to go?thanks for the help.

It really doesn't take a lot to make 110+HP with a 1980 SRX motor. If your cylinders are stock, I wouldn't cut them because there are a lot of them around that aren't. Let me know if you need some.
 
do u have some that r already ported or just need boring?who do u recommend for porting and what exhaust?

I have 30+ cylinders but I need to take inventory to see what they are. I know I have stuff you could sleeve and port. Have DRP do it and get his pipes or some Aaens.

118 h.p. on who's dyno?
 
I WOULD HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK FOR SHURE, BUT AAEN USE TO ADVERTISE WITH HIS WILD STINGER PIPES, FULL RACE PORTING, AND .44 mm CARBS ON THE 78-80 SRX HP I THINK WAS 105. THIS WAS EASY 20 YEARS AGO. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THE 76 OR 77 SRX IN THIS ADD. NOW WITH TODAYS TECHNOLGY, SHURE THIS CAN HAPPEN. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
hey thanks gpxsrxracer for answering pm.im gonna go with a vmax 600 or comparable motor in this.less rpms,easier to clutch and more torque down low.if anyone has a 600 for sale complete,i will buy.thanks tom
 
77 srx mods will make 120+ hp if you what your doing ;)! even the 78 to 80 engines will push 100+ hp with some work.
 
yep,picked up a vmax 600 motor out of a donor 1997 vmax xtc.have set of cylinders dropped off at justin fullers(full power racing)he bought out a lot of benders turbo stuff and has done some very nice work for me.if anybody in the buffalo,erie area needs a 1997 chassis with reverse and electric start.ill let go for 200.00 no rips in seat,no cracks in hood.

No thats for any year srx, even a 77. Basicly Olav ported the 76's or 78-80's to 77 specs and slightly more plus his full mod pipes which got you 102-105 if your lucky.

120+ on your dyno or who's? Every time I hear these claims it's always off of a water brake dyno. Those little red nobs that adjust the waterflow/load work wonders in horsepower claims. I'd like to see this or any other srx that claims 120+ h.p. at Dynotech or Gallaways dyno. When I do I'll eat crow and be the first to admit its possible.

The 77s were already a good design mod cylinder engine as well as the stock pipes, which if replaced by AAEN's didnt yeild and real significant gains over stock, especially with the 77 pipe mod. Pat Hauck will attest to that. So even the pipes back then werent that bad at all, even today they still work great and still win races with them. Maybe thats why they sell for 400.00+ often now. The Delaughter new technology if you would like to call it with big bellies put out a claimed max 7 more horse over a 77srx pipe or modded pipe, as thats what he told me. So then if that makes like 105 h.p. lets say then there is still 15+ horsepower left on the table? I hightly doubt it, and if there was at the risk of what loosing even more torque that the srx engine already doesnt have? Torque moves the sled and if that kind of porting is possible to get the high numbers and you loose even more torque your no further ahead. Funny as one guy from the midwest( I wont name) had 3 sleds done by Delaughter, pipes and porting and low and behold the pipes first and then sleds were being sold like a year later and as watched after they were first built at a big drag race one of those big number h.p. Delaughter sleds was consistantly getting beat by a know good tuned stock ported 77 srx. Fact.

I Saw A 76 Srx With A 600 V Max Motor In It At Some Drags In Vermont This
Winter Left Hard And Never Looked Back Torque Is Good And Easy To Clutch
